New comment menus ?

i have thought for some time now that there should be only one menu of gadgets on each comment … not one at the top and some at the bottom and the edit pen even outside it.   i think that would simplify and deconfuse the comment system dramatically and eliminate lots of errant clicks.

and a hidden menue is an absurbity and very hard to learn that it is there.  one has to be told like i was.

you bro

Facebook, and many other sites, have hidden gadget menus for the less used gadgets and prevalent ones at the bottom for the most used gadgets. Millions of people don’t seem to have trouble with that.

In your case, you were looking for something that has been there for a long time and suddenly disappeared … that’s a special case … and I would expect to tell you that.

Seth says

← here is a facebook menu.   it is not totally hidden.

Si says
Well, it once was completely hidden … and I have thought of that “light” approach too. We’ll see. Don’t get all wiggy, things are “in flux”. So far your comments are helpful but if you start wigging on the changes, and doing “this is like that” stuff, like you sometimes do, I will simply ignore you. Thanks.

Mark de LA says
NOW censorship, eh ?  hiding without ability to retrieve. null

Seth says
oh fret not on the shifting sands of SiriTd

Seth says

← i’ve always wanted this to say “add a new train (or thread)” which is what it does

Seth says

Si says
Yes. I would be happy with “add a new thread”.

Seth says
i have no idea what you mean by me “gegging wiggy and doing this is like that stuff” as oppsed to me making useful comments about how i use the system and would like to see it working.

Seth says
well, like i said in the body of this fork,  i certainly think the gadgets should be simplified and repositioned or refactored.   thanks for getting SiriTD to get on board.   i like the new “like the thought itself button” and how it works just like at FB.

but i have never seen a hidden gadget menue on a frequently used site.  to me it would be an obvious cause of a newbie’s frustration … how can she do what she wants to do … nothing on the screen to show her … and i will bet that a screen reader will never tell her.

That’s what I mean, at least the start of, getting wiggy.

Letting me know that you lost them is good. Thinking about re factoring is good. Thinking about what you don’t want is not good for anyone, especially you in your verse. The more energy you put into that tread of thought, the worse it will get, untill you will eventually be saying things like “you are a strong arm developer” and the other things you like to say when you think yourself down that path of attraction.

Seth says
anyway i even like that they are hidden from me … simplifies the screen and makes it look cleaner to me  now that i know there is a menu under the upper left of the comment null

i also know that some other people learning the system will not know how to edit their comments or know that they have other options.

LOA Superstition: (Even Esther keeps saying the mantra “if you know what you don’t want then you know what you do want” – null also breeds OCD – O my god I thought something I don’t want. Go to confession & cleanse.

Seth says
i don’t think you have to get all OCD about it or go to a confessor null

fact is that always worrying about what is going to kick you in the ass is a stupid way to live.

this is not rocket science.  more like common sense … not to mention common experience … you should try it …

Mark de LA says
Actually I do just fine. Neither worrying about something nor obsessing about something nor supersticioning about whether I am causing something I don’t want by thinking about it. nullnullthumbs up

& I don’t have to censure other people from talking about it either! null

Seth says
null hmmm …. so after all that is how it feels to you from inside of there?   I would never have guessed that after watching you from out here.

Seth says
glad you mentioned it, Mark … i cannot deney WE EACH OF US HAVE AN INSIDE AND AN OUTSIDE ... ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON! …. can you?

That certainly is part of my beliefs about myself and others.   Are you that different really?

Mark de LA says
I have attained states where an I didn’t exist which obliterates inside & outside . So no I don’t necessarily accept your limits or geography.

Seth says
fair enough.   notice that what i refer to as inside/outside is defined in a very specific manner.   if others do not have access to it, and/or cannot experience it, then it is inside me … if others have access to it, or can experience it, then it is outside of me.   i have noticed, and others have told me, that boundary is quite movable.  That you can move yours to inclue everything i find incredible.

In fact when you had no inside and outside according to my definition of same,  do you remember what *I* was experiencing?   I would surely like to know.

What you are talking about Mark. The idea of monitoring your thoughts and getting OCD about them. Is something LOA newbies do. But it is not a phase that last very long. You quickly realize that you don’t have to do that and everything works just fine.
SeriTD and – facilitating your changes to your reality ?

Seth says
it just occurred to me, while i was away just now,  that there is a cumulative effect … the more your do it, the more it works.  occasional use is not quite so very effective.

Mark de LA says
XOR NOTbies, NOWbies & OTHERbies have their places & ontologies .. personally I like to chuck beliefs.

Seth says
no beliefs and no expecting may well be a blissful state of being … is it being conscious? … i rather think not.

Mark de LA says
I can chuck that belief of yours ! null
