Dynamic Balance - A tale of Two Systems

    We have a most amazing & sacred gift of a human body - some say it is made in the image of the Cosmos & even reproduces itself with a big bang!
    One of it's properties is dynamic balance.  When it is healthy small disturbances heal themselves. Larger disturbances require input from the outside given a Cosmos that itself has all of the cures.
     I choose to use the body as a model & metaphor for the body politic. The blood system is analogous to the economy of the body politic.  The nervous system is analogous to speech, the press & communications media - both input & output. Many other analogies can be obtained by systems analysis but I want right now to focus on the blood & circulation systems - the economic model.
     If I were a doctor seeing a patient such as the World or perhaps just our country I would say it is sick in so far as there appear to be clots in various veins & arteries.  The patient is not breathing rhythmically. The patient is not yet ready for a final heart attack or a stroke but needs some kind of remedy for this out of balance condition.  Recently the brain of this patient & nervous system seems to want to induce spasmodic tachycardia (an out of rhythm heart) in an attempt to clear the clots - this is accelerating disease. More rhythm needs to be induced. Sometimes a huge shock is helpful, but a huge shock can kill.  The blood needs to thin out - it is too rich with sugar & fat. I would prescribe leaning out & rhythmic exercise along side of some artistic nurturing of the brain with examples from music & art to induce appreciation & consciousness of balanced design.

shades of the leviathon.  i like your approach
Wow!
source: ... Thomas Hobbes argues for a social contract and rule by an absolute sovereign. Hobbes wrote that chaos or civil war – situations identified with a state of nature and the famous motto Bellum omnium contra omnes ("the war of all against all") – could only be averted by strong central government.
... not even close to what I argue for.

I liked also this metaphor which I included on the facebook link for the above;
~
Here is another metaphor from real life. Brother Greg (may he rest in peace) liked bees. He built a beehive that the bees really liked & would swarm to get into. It wasn't shaped like the mormal square drawers that most industrial bee hive...s use today. It had an unusual geometrical shape. Instead of removing covers & smoking the bees out of their hive he could put a jar into the middle of his hive & Eureka! the bees would come & fill his gift with theirs - comb & honey .. no need to drive them from their home & steal their food!

Yeah, Hobbes was from another time ... i found his book almost unreadable.  Still and all he did introduced the metaphor and gave it a name, the "Leviathon".
He introduced HIS mataphor - not mine.  Mine came from RS & GW.
.... which I put in my own words to recreate the distinction!

Hobbs introduced, as far as i know for the first time in history, the metaphor which you describe as "body as a model & metaphor for the body politic" ... and, what is most important to me, he gave it the name "Leviathan" in his 17th century novel.   i also used the the idea of the human body as a model  of  society in a paper i wrote for my biology class in high school ... but i had been imagining it long before that.  It's quite possible that i got the idea from reading Steiner books in my youth ... i don't know.

Thing is, when i encountered the name "Leviathan" several years ago, i flashed ...  kewl ... now i have a name for the metaphorThat is all this is for me.  I guess, for unknown reasons, that rubs you the wrong way ... well, so what?
Mostly because Hobbs concluded what is needed is "strong central government".  Anyway I used it differently- not to copy the system which would be absurd but to use the body to instantiate the distinction of "dynamic balance".  You may well know that I don't hold that the brain runs the body but that our most human parts inhabit the physical body like soul & spirit & that what is physical exhibits behavior which we interpret as brain doing something - a cloud chamber is a good analogy.  Up to the time I read your link I had always thought leviathan as a word describing something large & unwieldy:

surprise  it is miraculous how the growth and evolution of our human society has paralleled the growth and evolution of our bodies.

Is that striking parallel between these two disparate planes: 1) just a figment of my imagination,  or 2) an actual feature of what is happening?   Does it seem so just because i am swimming in its waters … or is it so because it is quite independent of my perception?  It might help to determine which by imagining how it could be otherwise.  What if there was no parallell between ourselves internally and what our selves make up interacting together?  ← just a little thought problem for a Wednesday night.

LOL … well if you look at it from the perspective that what is out there (interacting together) is part of our individual creation, just like our bodies are, then it makes perfect sense that they would evolve together and even seem so to our conscious expereince.

Just saying.
Dualism is an ancient problem which gave forth the Skeptics & of dualism did RS speak a lot in The Philosophy of Freedom . All that out there, in here, my thoughts, & your thoughts stuff is dualistic.

Well in my ontology i have it that …
{seth’s-ontology  “our individual creation”  isPartOf “what is interacting togther”}
Not how you say you have it …
{Poe’s-ontology  “what is interacting together”  isPartOf “our individual creation” }

I know the difference. I am just saying that my way explains very nicely and neatly why they would not only seem like they were parallel, but would actually be parallel. It makes the solution to your pondering super simple.

If it’s the other way around as you say, then the solution would have to be quite a coincidence, or due to complex factors as yet unknown in human thinking.

yes i see that … being the entire universe  seems to have a lot of benefits.  However, In this universe in which i experience myself as merely a part, i would need to discover those “complex factors as yet unknown in human thinking” just as you say.

My trick might just be the old,  to see something, first see where it is not.  see “What if there were no stars?”  … i have used that trick in the past to discover the essence of something.  But don’t hold your breath for it … this is a long long term project of mine … see leviathan

Well, in any case, tag these thusly. For focus is upon them and so the law of attraction will continue to bring many more. Tag them in some way you can collect them. After a while you may see a pattern. After there are many more of these that are well explained by the simple model I use, and quite indistinct and paradoxical from the other model, you may start wondering. Or you may always decide that your internal feeling that there just must be something out there you are a part of, instead of being the creator of, is more important. It will always be your choice, but I do know what we will find along the way for I have traveled this path. So will see. If you are open minded, tag them.

Incidentally, the benefit here is not in being the entire universe. This is a very specific case where things that seem to happen in parallel are in one model, actually happening in parallel, and in the other don’t seem that they should be connected. I won’t let you just use the God card on this one! This is not a super power. One model actually predicts what is seen in a very logical and understandable way, the other doesn’t have a relationship for it.

you would need to give me tangible reproducible edges on that last one … or it will remain just a ambiguous description.

anyway i am not so sure that i used the right word when i said “parallel” … it is more like a different level … more like the movie 2001 … or the SciFi story “Childhood’s End” … where humanity itself becomes like our individual bodies.   It seems to me that our nervous system, or brain,  is developing now.  Thing is, we are doing it … following our excitemnt is doing it …. we are creating this growth into the next level.
