Now if you are wondering about FB like wizardry, wonder this. I went and liked this page over on the play nexus blog and then later noticed it had 2 likes here. Was my like over their included? How exactly?

And last night, after Seth used the unready like button, in the next hour it went up to 5 likes shown here at FBI. But I could find no evidence of people coming here. And then it wasn’t the exact thought, but just the fastblogit group. So how were those 5 counted? From the FB feed?

It’s all just magik I think. We all only use the buttons, we don’t know what they really do!
Well my screen on this particular thought shows 2.

it is all a puzzelment wink

here i the post that was created by my  share

and it shows no likes.

this like number is comming from elsewhere.
Yep. I bet if you googled it other people would weigh in on what it does … though different people might say different things.   And that would in part depend on which bi-anual period the article was written in for the last 10 years.

It’s nice the “default image” I specify when I can’t find any in the page is showing up … even if chopped off.

ok i liked it over there and the number increased to 3
Seth 2016-03-14 10:49:03 [item 20523#49338]
now it shows 4 … after i liked and commented again from here this time.
Seth 2016-03-14 10:49:56 [item 20523#49339]
apparently i can do it only once … it is as it should be

i really do think if you put a hyperlink on the number it might help us clarify.   it is almost as if I need to mentograph it.
dA 2016-03-14 10:37:52 [item 20523#49333]
Huh? I can’t … it is inside an iFrame owned by FB. I can’t touch it with my code due to browser internal xss restriction's.

It is theoretically possible to build all your own components to emulate what their plugins do and use the raw FB graph api to make it work … but that would be days of work to do and would likely break the next FB update, which happen about twice a year.
Seth 2016-03-14 10:44:55 [item 20523#49335]

With share i think i know what it is doing … it will make a post with a URL comming back to the the thought.   But where does it get the number.   Maybe we have to just experiment.

As to like … i’m baffeled as to know what is being liked … there mut be a post somehere with like numbers increasing … where? … i have no idea.
dA 2016-03-14 10:53:12 [item 20523#49343]
I think if you set up the Facebook Alaletics part of the account it will graph some of that. There are links to do that on the developer site pages.
okay ...i’ll try to get that done

Holmes says
Seth 2016-03-14 10:52:59 [item 20523#49342] ← seems to me that you could get this address from the FB graph API.
dA 2016-03-14 10:54:36 [item 20523#49344]
I can get that, but how would I know what to ask for? None of that info is anything on this end associated to the buttons.
Seth 2016-03-14 10:57:44 [item 20523#49345]
are not the two addresses

linked together in the FB graph ?
dA 2016-03-14 11:00:23 [item 20523#49347]
I looked for that once before, googled it a lot, and never found it. But verses vary. I’m not particularly interested right now in it … so many other more pressing things to do than reverse engineer FB.

It does something and counts and that makes people happy. People like to click. People like to count, and be counted.
Seth 2016-03-14 11:01:45 [item 20523#49349]
could you like it youself here? … i’m just curious how it will change.
dA 2016-03-14 11:05:46 [item 20523#49351]
Okay. It is [4] right now. I will click on it.
dA 2016-03-14 11:06:34 [item 20523#49352]
Now it is [5] both before and after reloading the page.
Seth 2016-03-14 11:13:19 [item 20523#49353]

ok … but what is interesting is that the facebook post itself shows only me as liking it.

How come it does not show you too?
dA 2016-03-14 11:16:09 [item 20523#49354]
What’s even more interesting is that this like does not show up in my activity log at all like all the others do … only the one I did on playnexus shows up … and that one seemed to get counted here when I did it an hour ago … it’s like FB was noticing the related url.
Seth 2016-03-14 11:21:22 [item 20523#49357]
well the distinction is almost certainly that this url is about the playnexus url.   two different thingies.
In your mind perhaps. But count wise, it seems to Favor and count toward playnexus on FB … seems I remember reading something about that somewhere too. Original links count more than relinks or something.

Elain’s activity on facebook bumped this up.
dA 2016-03-14 12:37:36 [item 20523#49371]
Yep. Sometimes on Facebook, and sometimes even on another site that is an external url found in this page, and prolly sometimes with related titles. Lots of fuzzy AI in this, just like Google search ranks.
Seth 2016-03-14 12:54:08 [item 20523#49375]
i almost want to joystick the FB graph and see how much of this i can grock that way.

pondering i wonder … has anybody made a FB graph browser?
dA 2016-03-14 13:04:05 [item 20523#49379]
Of course! It was probably the first FB tool ever made. Right under tools at the developers site.

You can app scope it to our app or not, as you wish.

Notice it uses a “token” just like we do … but a bit longer by a mile or two!
