Green Bubbles
About: what's green and goes pop? -- printout -- time

At the heart of the credit crunch now afflicting the global economy is the bursting of a great housing bubble throughout much of the developed world. Bubbles are, of course, as old as capitalism itself. Many of us in England recall learning at school of the great South Sea bubble of the early 18th century. But they seem to be coming more frequently nowadays. The housing bubble has burst only a decade or so after the Internet and tech-stock bubble. So we may not need to wait all that long to see the next one. And the most likely candidate is a green bubble, fueled by climate-change alarmism and government subsidies.

Well, doing something for the wrong reason is NOT a good thing. Who are you to say that developing nations shouldn't build industrial economies? Who are you to say that the way it was 20 years ago is as far as economies & industries should go? The carbon-credit boondoggle is simply a new tax for liberals to play with - it will do nothing to improve human's existence of the Earth!

Well let's hope it's not a bubble. The world changing its industrial habits is a good thing. It proves that we can still adapt.

Well the reasons we do things are in an entirely different dimension, an almost paper dimension, from the dimension which contains what we actually do. When our industry runs on renewable energy, why we did it will be a mere footnote in a musty tome.
As usual your sentences with me as the subject are false. I said no such thing as "developing nations shouldn't build industrial economies". I would however say that building their industries on renewables is certainly indicated given the rising price of oil. Nor did i say anything about "carbon credits" here. Looking back form the next century where hopefully alternative energy souces dominate our industry, me thinks that "carbon credits" will not be the paper reason why it happened. More likely it will be some of the inventions that are daily cronicaled here.

P.S. you as a member of a class of people who believe in man-made global warming & who do say those kinds of things have not rejected such absurdities. You who believe that the ends justifies the means also, maybe as unintended consequences, support such absurdities.

(P.S.S - you in this sense is similar to the editorial "we" - look it up!)

Wind farms in the Pacific Northwest -- built with government subsidies and maintained with tax credits for every megawatt produced -- are now getting paid to shut down as the federal agency charged with managing the region's electricity grid says there's an oversupply of renewable power at certain times of the year.

The problem arose during the late spring and early summer last year. Rapid snow melt filled the Columbia River Basin. The water rushed through the 31 dams run by the Bonneville Power Administration, a federal agency based in Portland, Ore., allowing for peak hydropower generation. At the very same time, the wind howled, leading to maximum wind power production.
Demand could not keep up with supply, so BPA shut down the wind farms for nearly 200 hours over 38 days.

... one would think you could ship it somewhere else on the grid, but ???????

... yeah or use it to pump water up hill to create potential energy. Looks like they still have some work to do.
