Obama derives Security principles from Winnie the Pooh ??

About: the campaign spot on national review online

But if former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig really is a potential national security adviser under President Obama, he's doing his potential future boss no favors when he talks like this: Richard Danzig, who served as Navy Secretary under President Clinton and is tipped to become National Security Adviser in an Obama White House, told a major foreign policy conference in Washington that the future of US strategy in the war on terrorism should follow a lesson from the pages of Winnie the Pooh, which can be shortened to: if it is causing you too much pain, try something else. Mr Danzig told the Centre for New American Security:

McCain's also for winning the war in Iraq.
You know that given enough expenditure in men and machines a rich country like the US can always wrestle a small country like Iraq to the ground and hold them there.  That is what is happening in Iraq.  In that sense the McCain/Bush surge is working.  The question, and this is a very serious one that deserves more than a flippant remark or a change of subject: is what happens when you stop applying force ... what happens when you let your opponent up off of the carpet?
There are signs that foreign countries are beginning to invest heavily in Iraq. Freedom & capitalism work every time they are tried!

Nothing wrong with applying a good metaphor no matter the source.   Try Einstein's version: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".
Yep, let's fight wars with metaphors & similes, slogans - change (Maybe the change is from winning wars to losing them!) & hope & retreads from Bill Clinton's administration like Richard Danzig

Yes, please use the spell checker.  My google toolbar has one too!  I have told Seth before that I am for "none of the above". When push comes to shove I will vote for the turd that stinks the least!
McCain has recently made announcements about tax cuts, drilling for the oil that we have, even moratorium on gas taxes for the summer some while ago. Of course Obama opposes all those in some way. McCain's also for winning the war in Iraq. Remove thy head from the sand.

BTW, your metaphor or analogy of wrestling a country to the carpet is very disingenuous. It's true the terrorists are loosing badly, though!
Why is it "disingenuous" ?  From everything i have heard it sounds like an accurate characterization?  The question is if you remove the force next year, what will happen to the country?  If we remove the force the year after what will happen?  How long do we need to maintain the force before we can reasonably expect a positive outcome?
Well, to begin with we are not fighting the country, but a bunch of thugs & terrorists. We still have some of Bill Clinton's troops in Bosnia, Germany, Japan etc... what's your hurry? Many seem to think that next year may be the year that they begin to leave.
Big difference between Japan, Germany etc ... nobody is fighting us there, the population there is supportive, which is not the case in Iraq.  You cannot instill a way of life and a government on a population that does not want it without force.  That is the fallacy of McCain's position that you are parroting.

You have no supportive evidence that the Iraqi people don't want our support in Iraq, except perhaps the terrorist Muqtada Al Sadr & the Iranian insurgents. The agreement has recently been put up for negotiations - we will see what happens.  The point of including Japan & Germany is that they have changed from combatants to friendly forces still in those countries long after WW-II.  Bosnia is a residue of the war which Clinton started. So again what's your hurry?
