How do you find your home room ?

Ask yourself if you are new to FastBlogIt how you find your home group (your home room) ? I think it is too subtle now, it is under the hyperlink in your greeting. Hmmm ... i wonder if you had discoveed that.

Well i want to change that. I want the

button to go to your home room.

This means we will need another button to go to the common room where everybody's items flow.

This morning i changed the

screen such that after you sign in, you go to your home room. Also if you create a new group there, you will go to the

screen ready to add your first item.

I still hate the term "room" & it's hard to put my finger on why. I wonder if , in the tradition of cyberspace you could think of a room as a "space" & see if that designates the same idea. I think of it as less confining mentally. I live in a room - I think in space.

Incidently, I have always used the greeting to find my home space. I also like the sometimes association of the name of the commentor going to the commentor's home space at the time of the commenting.

Hmmm ... i will need to try that a bit ... "tag room" or "tag space" ... "title room" or "title space" ... "home room" or "home space" .... hmm ....

One thing i like to talk about is doors to rooms. The doors are hyperlinks that go to other rooms ... you can see a lot of those on the left side of the screen .. and other places too. Do spaces have doors ?

honestly, i am experiencing a lot of personal resistance to give up the room metaphor. I like it. I fijnd no personal negative connotation associated with chat rooms. It is true that we could make the space mataphor work. It would give the system a more scifi cyber spacey feel. But really there is this personal vestment i have and a lot of work changing the metaphor. It is unlikely i would do it just because of your negative associations with chat rooms.

Also there are other associations with rooms that may or may not be liked by certain factions. I mean there are search d&d rooms.

The marketing perspective would be that if you want to limit the FastBlogIt metaphor to "Chat Rooms" go ahead! IMHO the CyberMind & CyberSpace metaphors are much more powerful. BTW, the metaphor "room" works quite well if you want to limit yourself to being a fancy blog or a "bog roll" - it may be hard for marketing to shift the metaphor of a blog to a CyberMind once it sticks on the "bog roll" (pun intended). Some people might just ask "well, is it blog or a chat room" and never look further once they have an answer. Only those in the folksonomy area & blog area who are not competition might look further IMHO.

I would prefer somewhere down the line that a "search" be within FastBlogIt space rather than Google - ultimately more useful. Maybe Google can provide clues on how to use their search tools.

perhaps ... buy i am always refering people to specific google searches ... so i think that is the most useful thing to have right now. It does bring up a nasty quiggy, however. If i say that wiki references are for quick references to rooms in the host domain, then this new search whatever wiki reference, certainly breaks that definition.

I think most people know how to search google in one or two key-strokes. If I saw a search box on a website I would assume most-often that it is for the site & not just a reference to google's search engine. Google has search engine support for individual web sites, but I don't know how it would work since this is not a static website.

sure they know how, but making a reference there is much more specific.. You know how, and yet you don't know what d&d refers to. Think about it, it is a way of disambuifying a reference.
