Ingesting the News

About: glenn beck - current events & politics - glenn beck: media goes after palin

On yesterday's Glenn Beck radio program an interesting process was revealed about the way news is processed or "ingested".  Normally a story is ingested into the CNN system from wherever the sources show up. At some point I am presuming it is fact checked.  From that point on it becomes a story that is talked about & all surscribers to the news database? continue to add on, research & publish.  Normally they screen out blogs as sources (since blogs are opinion?).  Apparently US Weekly published stuff that was false about Sarah Palin all sourced or not sourced from blogs.  From that point on, it entered the media news front news chain.
So, take heart - the news can be fabricated if a blog is the source of the news by a normally accredited newspaper or source.

Show me one piece of real "news" of any consequence broken on a blog.  Speculation is not news. When I want a point of view or an opinion I will go to a blog.  When I want well researched & sourced information I will normally go to the standard news outlets. Glenn Beck's radio program, like Rush's is out front on what their point of view is.  They are not masquerading as "unbiased" or "neutral".  Without sourcing, preferably named, there is no news - just guesswork.  Of course lies & innuendo can't be sourced. Fishing expeditions, smears & innuendo are not news. You can fool some of the people some of the time & all of the people some of the time .... just because everyone is talking about something.  Witness Adolf Hitler's Big Lie. The lie gets bigger rapidly with the M$M megaphone.  BTW, that is usually all it takes for some lazy people to believe a lie..(QED).
This cartoon bears repeating here:

Some blogs (individuals) do break news stories.  That is no longer the purview of what you term "normally accredited newspaper or source".  Many blogs just recycle and comment on news from other sources.  But then broadcast news does the same thing.  One thing actually happens and then you get days of talking heads spinning it this way and that.  I will bet that many people get confused and think that spin is the news.  What i find is that most of the stuff you repeat to me is that spin from angry right wingers.  Personally i get sick of that same old spin that i've heard already 10 times.   At least what i try to do is to make up my own spin. For example ... have you heard anyone else question Sara Plain based upon her lack of responsible birth control (hopefully before the fact) for her 5th child ... nope you got that first from me.  So go ahead, rag on the blogisphere, its a common thing to do ... you need to vet it just like you do the broadcast media ... but if you wait until a fact or spin makes it to the broadcast media, you will in fact miss out on some.  Btw, Russ and Glen are bloggers just like the rest of us - they are not journalists - i grant them no more authority than i do the Daily Kos - they just got their "blogs" served from the radio.

In the blogosphere you do get somewhat of a dialogue and a natural vetting that you dont get from the traditional M$M.  For example from a angry right wing blogger we get: "BREAKING: Sarah Palin Winged Her Speech Because of Broken Teleprompter" and then right away from the angry left wing we get: "The teleprompter did not break".  Now guess which one is going to be reported by Foxnews ... which one will Russ spin?
Speaking of trivialities this comment is certainly one.  I would be more interested in which was true.  The undercurrent however  is mostly about O'bummer not being able to speak in his flashy style without a teleprompter. We will see whether the latter is true during the debates if they allow for unscripted moments.
BTW. This item is not about your cherished candidate nor about Palin, but about the process that becomes the M$M news.  That unsources blog speculation or opposition research gets into the M$M is appaling to me.  The blogosphere has no journalist ethics. The M$M appears to be losing that image as well. That's why this group was formed.  This group can be returned to privacy if necessary to preserve that intent.

I believe that blogactive was instrumental in breaking the republican sex scandals.  There are other ones too.  Next time i see one go by i'll post it here, blogs breaking news.  I don't listen to Glen or Russ on the raido and avoid Glen on TV except when i want to get mad at him. By the time you repeat their angry right wing spin to me, i've usually already seen it many times over.  Did they originate it?  I don't know, who cares.
Proving you are a true blogger you have been lazy & not linked to anything original in blogactive or elsewhere & merely transmitted the "republican sex scandals" meme. Thanks for proving my point!

BTW, a lot of the M$M major outlets like FoxNews & CNN have opportunities for comment much like blogs. Others have a link to the reporter's email.

My comment above was about "the process that becomes the M$M news".   My point being to see how that story becomes part of the M$M news and what part the blogosphere takes in that process. If your going to skew you item to only acknowledge your spin, then let me know, and i'm out of here.

I didn't skew the item until you began taking it partisan-personally .  The about box is the nearest item I could find to document what I heard yesterday.

I  just reported examples - not partisan.  The one you seem to have objected to originally reflected well on Palin - point is to watch it and see how (and where) it plays in M$M.

The difference between Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck & your average blogger is that the former declare up front where their material comes from & what their point of view is. Rush Limbaugh has declared many times that his point of view is Conservatism (not even Republican which could be different).
The latter just bloviate & spin!
