How do we find .... continued (WORKFLOW)

With the current shortened page limit & the conversation still live on the more remote items, I am finding myself losing the items I am commenting on. I have to go backward in the living stream to find them again. This is a pain in the ass & will confuse the hell out of new users. Another problem is that I am commenting on your seth private group items & am not a member. So that I have to find the items in the living stream & not my home group. One suggestion is to have a switch to the group you comment on & only show the public items - this would keep the conversation going well. In a living stream that moves at the rate of 100 every five minutes this problem will be acute.

I coded this .4wish as it is very definitely something that we should do. It will not happen prior to opening. That is unless opening happens this month and is not delayed till after the new year.

I have some definite ideas on how to do it. Should be one named php file that generates comment rooms.

comments.php?group=x&author=y

These could be called up via wiki references:

[comments seth bozo] would give you all the items that were commented on the seth group by bozo
[comments * bozo] would give you all items commented on by bozo in all groups

The designated comments would be highlighted in the room display.

But then what people really want is not just to see their comments but rather to see which of their items and comments have been responded to by others. Plus they are not all that interested in old history, they want to see just those responses since last they looked. I think these might be called up with the following references:

[responses seth bozo] shows only those responding to a comment by bozo of seth, or responding in the same item as one of bozo's comments. Only items not shown previously would be shown. IOW, if you refreshed the room it would prolly be empty.
[responses] is the same as above except the group and author would be taken from your cookie.

And it does not necessarilay help that there are very good solutions to it that can be learned ...

bookmark the hyperlink for items that you want to actively discuss. For example 1046.
bookmark the RTE comment screen from the item in question. For example this one

That said, let's look at some proposed solutions ...

but you can make comments on several items in the same room - this solution conflicts with that one
However, if you comment on only one item (strangely it is hard to identify that condition, but it prolly can be done), then it would be possible to switch to that group.

Create a new room of items to which you commented on ... the uri might be something like

../YOUR-HOME-ROOM/commented where YOUR-HOME-ROOM stands for your cookie group.
then switch to that room after any comment or comments
hmmm ...

tags are the answer - however the comment RTE doesn't have a tag input box if you leave it to the last minute.

whatever describes the item - at least if it has a personal tag you can find it again rather than paging thru the living stream

One of the prime reasons for wanting to see an item that I just commented on is to see if someone else has subsequently commented on my comment. I suppose that doing the comment from a permalink, when that all works, is a solution. On the otherhand I might want to comment on other items while those comments come through.

& then the ugly thought of a "comment room" with tags for sets of comments (?however that might work) shows it's ugly head - just comments & the ability to tag just a comment with only references to the items involved.

Another kind of comment room would just use your cookie group to define the room. Such a uri would be:

../comments

That uri would automatically go to a room of items to which you commented on from the group in your cookie.

We could still allow:

../GROUP/comments

To mean a room of comments made from the designated group. Notice that this uri is available to all regardless of their cookie group and would allow, for example, me to see what items you commented on from the "megor" group.

Oh, you are saying that comment rooms are not like other rooms. They do not show complete items + all their comments ?
