Government Tinkering in a Panic - Harvesting the Opportunities in a Crisis

About: obama, pelosi to discuss scope of economic package - washingtonpost.com

source: ... In a letter to Democratic House members, she wrote that the hearing will focus on "the need to act with deliberate speed to safeguard as many as three million jobs by making needed investments in infrastructure, alternative energy, science and other emerging sectors and providing middle-class tax cuts to help make work pay."
Obama aides said the president-elect and his team will help make an all-out push to convince Americans that the government must spend almost $1 trillion to create jobs, provide cash for spending and shore up the finances of the state governments.
... All cons depend upon urgency & crisis to make it past rationality & deliberation - your tax money is very much at risk!

There is a bank with a trillion of your tax $$$$ in it & there is nobody guarding the bank nor watching who goes in & out nor keeps track of where the withdrawls are going!~
Get scared! ... REAL SCARED! Not only that, but when the funds get low the government holds you up with a gun to put more in it!

This kind of fear is exactly what republicans have based their party upon for over a generation.  Read the whole article below to get a better background on the sources of where your attitude came from - we all know that it has been definitively rejected by the American electorate for now.
source: Paul Krugman

The fault, however, lies not in Republicans’ stars but in themselves. Forty years ago the G.O.P. decided, in effect, to make itself the party of racial backlash. And everything that has happened in recent years, from the choice of Mr. Bush as the party’s champion, to the Bush administration’s pervasive incompetence, to the party’s shrinking base, is a consequence of that decision.

If the Bush administration became a byword for policy bungles, for government by the unqualified, well, it was just following the advice of leading conservative think tanks: after the 2000 election the Heritage Foundation specifically urged the new team to “make appointments based on loyalty first and expertise second.”

Contempt for expertise, in turn, rested on contempt for government in general. “Government is not the solution to our problem,” declared Ronald Reagan. “Government is the problem.” So why worry about governing well?

Where did this hostility to government come from? In 1981 Lee Atwater, the famed Republican political consultant, explained the evolution of the G.O.P.’s “Southern strategy,” which originally focused on opposition to the Voting Rights Act but eventually took a more coded form: “You’re getting so abstract now you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is blacks get hurt worse than whites.” In other words, government is the problem because it takes your money and gives it to Those People.

We have seen what urregulated greed and trickle down does.  I say it is time to give "smart government" a chance.

Yeah! Lefty Krugman has been running the NY Times propaganda wing of the liberal party for a long time. Nothing worthwhile reading of his. I guess I have to quote this again because you people just don't get it:
The America of my time line is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies, what has eventually happened to all perfect democracies throughout all histories. A perfect democracy, a "warm body" democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction.... [O]nce a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader — the barbarians enter Rome.

Everyone wants a hand-out; state governors want $1 trillion. That's not pragmatic, that's gluttonous.

Sounds like a drunken sailor in a whorehouse to me! One Trillion deficits as far as the eye can see. Pelosi is rewriting the rules so that it's harder for Republicans to object to bills!
Sounds like the same old partisanship !

Is this the Obama Stimulus Package at work?
