Obama Lied; The Economy Died

About: washington times - blankley: obama lied; the economy died

source: ...

If President Obama were to try to misrepresent his positions for the next four years, there would be nothing he could say that would approach the inaccuracy of his claim last week that he is not for big government. It is the essence of the man and his presidency. He doesn't like America the way it has been since its founding - and it will take an abusively big government to realize his dreams of converting America into something quite different. If you don't know that, you don't yet know Barack Obama.

... Somewhere between economically incompetent (he's a lawyer) or intentionally corrupt lies Obama!
Some have observed that Obama's statements have a truth half-life of a sound byte in a whirlwind & thereafter are subject to change without notice at the beginning of any subsequent news front or campaign whistle-stop.

Deception at Core of Obama Plans: ...

The "day of reckoning" has now arrived. And because "it is only by understanding how we arrived at this moment that we'll be able to lift ourselves out of this predicament," Obama has come to redeem us with his far-seeing program of universal, heavily nationalized health care; a cap-and-trade tax on energy; and a major federalization of education with universal access to college as the goal.

Amazing. As an explanation of our current economic difficulties, this is total fantasy

...
ibid: ...

At the very center of our economic near-depression is a credit bubble, a housing collapse and a systemic failure of the entire banking system. One can come up with a host of causes: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pushed by Washington (and greed) into improvident loans, corrupted bond-ratings agencies, insufficient regulation of new and exotic debt instruments, the easy money policy of Alan Greenspan's Fed, irresponsible bankers pushing (and then unloading in packaged loan instruments) highly dubious mortgages, greedy house-flippers, deceitful homebuyers.

The list is long. But the list of causes of the collapse of the financial system does not include the absence of universal health care, let alone of computerized medical records. Nor the absence of an industry-killing cap-and-trade carbon levy. Nor the lack of college graduates. Indeed, one could perversely make the case that, if anything, the proliferation of overeducated, Gucci-wearing, smart-ass MBAs inventing ever more sophisticated and opaque mathematical models and debt instruments helped get us into this credit catastrophe in the first place.

...very well said, but ?

Mark de LA says
BTW, Seth says not to worry unless I make over $250,000 in income - but cap & trade &/or carbon taxes will affect everyone who uses energy or drives a car or buys food at a market which is shipped in by truck! Again the cartoons get to the punchline quickly: (which is not funny!)

So adapt .... look for ways to buy an electric car ... or generate your own electricity ... or invest in algae ... or insulate your home .... lots of ways to adapt. Weening America from foreign oil is a priority and a crisis ... adapt or suffer the consequences.
I'm more concerned with the lies Obama told than your hyped-up global warming crisis!  How many of your friends in the ghetto are going to be able to buy an electric car, generate their own electricity or invest in algae boondoggles?

Senator John Kerry: ...

“If you factor in the best of everything that is currently proposed — the best — and if you can presume that we do what is best,” CO2 emissions will still exceed 500 parts per million (ppm) by 2050,” Kerry said, while noting that 350 ppm was the CO2 concentration that policymakers should aim for.

“All the current plans take you to about 550 [ppm], but science has now said 550, 450 is not enough,” Kerry said. “We have to go back to 350.”

Bottom line: As spotlighted in Steve Milloy’s new book “Green Hell: How Environmentalists Plan to Control your Life and What You Can Do to Stop Them,” the greens want to control your life and destroy your standard of living in return for nothing -  Steve Milloy

...覺- wake up! we're fucked already - bring in the clowns!

I guess you missed that the crisis is our dependence on foreign oil and not necessarily climate change.
If it is weening America from foreign oil then we could produce more domestically by drilling where we know there is some (offshore & in Anwar) & develop clean coal technology which we have in abundance in Utah & Colorado - more than the oil reserves in ME
. A carbon tax just raises the price & a new government bureacracy. Have you seen the ads with Obama touting clean coal technology?

Have you seen the ads with Obama touting clean coal technology?
Shirley you jest, how could i have missed the clean coal commercials

But to revisit the old campaign controversy, I have no objection to increasing domestic production and neither does Obama; but we cannot drill our way out of this ... the most optimistic figures do not account for the amount of oil we would need.  That is a fact that just cannot be ignored in any rational discussion about energy independence.

You should get together with John McCain ... he's tweeting all the Republican ear marks while you and the rest of the Limbaughts are blaming Obama.
Obama just brushes it off and says we'll worry about the earmarks next year when I'm more involved in it.  He could not sign it if it comes around & keep his promises. I'll give him a

I think this is a spending bill that was passed through congress prior to Obama's term.  I fail to see where he "promised" to veto it.  Check out later when a spending bill passes congress that he sponsored.
That's the partisan party line from the democrat congress that passed it!  If he signs it he owns it otherwise his signature means shit!

I think your confusing Obama with McCain on these earmarks.  It was McCain who made a big point of saying that he would veto bills with earmarks.  All Obama said is that he would work with congress to reform the process.  Running the government into gridlock is just grandstanding.  You also may want to read Ron Paul's attitude towards earmarks ...
source: Ron Paul with CAVUTO on Foxnews
CAVUTO: But would you argue, then, sir, that, when John McCain was here saying the whole earmark thing itself is what's out of control?
PAUL: Oh, no, no. He — he — he totally misunderstands that. That's grandstanding.
If you cut off all the earmarks, it would be 1 percent of the budget. But, if you vote against all the earmarks, you don't cut one penny. That is what you have to listen to. We're talking about who has the responsibility, the Congress or the executive branch?
... Your hyperventalating about Obama and earmarks is disingenuous.  You would have more creditability if you picked legitimate problems to complain about.

In the old days, people learned about ridiculous and wasteful pork barrel spending by reading about it in the newspapers. In the future, people will learn about ridiculous and wasteful pork barrel spending by reading about it on the Internet. Ain't progress grand?

Using the internet to disclose and discuss appropriations prior to enactment is in fact change i can believe in.  It is fast, it is democratic, and it may actually prevent wasteful spending.  Of course, the devil is in the details and we will need to see how it is implemented.  These things take time to get right ... especially when you have the weight of the old bureaucracy holding you back.

Yep, & in fact the budgets & bills are eventually published in such government-speak & legalese that nobody except the bureaucracy can understand them.  People can understand Pie charts & graphs. The old bureaucracy has a vested interest in the confusion. I seriously doubt it will get reformed any time soon.  Have you looked at the FEC sights on campaign donations & tried to follow the money?
