Hanging Out in Tag Rooms

This feature, first introduced here automatic tags for tagroom , is an important feature to develop because it allows people to "hang out in tag rooms" which will be an excellant place to hang out once the common river starts flowing too fast to easily navigate. Let me explain how this should work. If you are in a tag room, no matter how specific, and click on

, all the tags from the tag room will be copied into your item as default tags. You can edit them there or add others. After you submit your item, or if you opt to click

, then you will end up still in the tag room from whence ye came.

We may even enhanse this by allowing the client to set their home room

to be a tag room instead of their group room. In addition we may develop the ability for people to put a custome header on a tag room just like they can in their home room.

When I am signed onto a group, then and comment on an item in the tagroom which is in another group I return to the tagroom. If I am not signed on to anything and choose to select any tag & thus end up in a tagroom anc I comment on it I will return to the tagroom. Are these both true?

probably not, but i would view it as a bug that they are not.

So what happened to “hanging out in tag rooms”? Was it ever tried? The mechanism described didn’t seem to exist in 1.0, or did it and no one noticed it going away?

The idea that there is always a group focus now (as seen in the navigation group widget), even when in tag and other rooms, seems to make this feature even more practical than it would have been in 1.0. Thoughts created in a tag room would simply have those tags and be placed in the currently focused group. The dynamic stream could even keep the tag room flowing in real time without page reload, and as the spec above says, if created in a tag room then focus could return to that thought IN the tag room after submit.

Seems to me this feature may have made tags more useful than just being Seth’s personal “mind map”.

p.s. I say Seth’s personal because I have been perusing Mark’s tags and they seem to be mostly single-shot tags made up out of compounded words … not much of a tag network there. More like a huge labeling system. Every once in a while he has a network based on a tag, like the pr network. Seth seems to have lots of tag networks (mind maps).

well hanging out in tag rooms never happened just because i was the only person who has been seeing the rooms as defining a context that is coherant.

mark’s use of one off tags to affix judgements to thoughts simply creats static in the tag rooms. for example, do a tag search of the “global” and see all of the rooms that have only one thought in them.

for us to make tag rooms into coherant contexts, we need to be able to diligently edit tags. we need to be constantly imporving them … just as we write we always endevour to write the truest sentences that we possibley can. but shucks, that takes other people seeing their usefulness and working to make it even more useful.

Hanging out in tag rooms does seem useful to me. It is an easier way to have a big conversation and is one possible solution to the critical issue of having many people here, instead of just 3, having dialogs together.

The issues seem very doable in the new “live stream” based system.

“hanging out in tags rooms” was never implemented. it was just a thought of how tag contexts could be made more tangibly experiential.

i think you can look at a tag as something affixed to a thought to help it attract like thoughts. people can use it to manifests LOA in realms of a meta world.

The tag is the map. The tagroom is the territory. … which is why we should focus on the room … the context of thoughts created by tagging, rather than the tags which are affixed to each thought to produce that context.
