OBAMACARE

~
Since ABC gave away informercial space to Obamacare it is fair to look at the other side if you still care about getting good healthcare in the future.
Here is some of what the other side is thinking.

The best suggestion upon quick reading is a voucher program paid for by having the TARP funds repaid.

Well it's pretty hard for me to analyze a criticism of a plan when i haven't even been able to find the plan to start with.  To my knowledge Obama has given the Congress some broad requirements and it up to them to write the legislation.  Is there actual legislation on the table yet?  Where is it?

That said, i have some questions even about the broad strokes.  (1)  Why must operating the public plan cost the taxpayers anything?  Why can't the government just run it as a non-profit insurance company?  (2) Roughly what are the premiums and coverage that we can expect from the exchange? (3) If insurance companies cannot disallow coverage for preexisting conditions, then what prevents people from signing up after they need expensive care and stopping their premiums after they get it?

Mark de LA says
The government goes into business competing with insurance companies will drive the insurance companies out of business. The best thing to do is get insurance before getting documented that you need expensive surgeries & treatment. Insurance companies in California refused to insure against earthquakes. THe state then supplemented every homeowner policy with a state policy covering just earthquakes & similar problems & charged for the policy. The charge was relatively minor.  Something like that might cover catastrophic existing conditions that no current healthcare insurance company would insure. Someone has to pay for the service whether it is spread over the entire population of the state or the country.

I though it was supposed to be the same level of care that members of congress
already have.
Where's the source for that?

Well without having access to the details we don't know anything about it.  There has been some rhetoric about it going to be the same.
Can you point to some of the reliable rhetoric in any published article?  I searched govtrack for healthcare for congress & got ~18 bills on the subject. I am not inclined to read through them all.  I would prefer a committment from those that vote on the bill to subject themselves & their families to the same regulations & access rules as the rest of us. If they don't I suggest flushgov.com be a good place to publish their names & who they represent. I think that they then should be "called-out" whenever they speak in public for their hypocrisy.

Don't know .. don't know where people are getting the details ... how did Rush think sombody could even answer that question?
Congress has always had gold plated health insurance as does the president. THat has been brought up every time healthcare reform shows up.  The point is Congress writes laws & exempts themselves from having to deal with it.

For the record here is the "Affordable Health Choices Act"  that Kennedy's committee is working on in the Senate.

Mark de LA says
For the record (or not) here is a clue as to how it is getting sold or opposed by the M$$M Washington Post.

Washington Post sells access, $25,000+
 Source: ...

For $25,000 to $250,000, The Washington Post is offering lobbyists and association executives off-the-record, nonconfrontational access to "those powerful few" — Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and the paper’s own reporters and editors.

.. is there no pretense of unbiassed reporting.  First ABC & now the Washington Post.

    Colleagues,

A flyer was distributed this week offering an “underwriting opportunity” for a dinner on health-care reform, in which the news department had been asked to participate.

The language in the flyer and the description of the event preclude our participation.

We will not participate in events where promises are made that in exchange for money The Post will offer access to newsroom personnel or will refrain from confrontational questioning. Our independence from advertisers or sponsors is inviolable.

There is a long tradition of news organizations hosting conferences and events, and we believe The Post, including the newsroom, can do these things in ways that are consistent with our values.

    Marcus

... Apparently some promotion people for the conference did what those kind of people are prone to do ... pump it up.   You should really savor the moment.

Update: The Post canceled their plans.  Will that end the this or do we still have the argument "well what about if there had been no whistle blower" to hear?  I wonder if Charles Pelton, the person responsible for the flyer, will loose his job?  I also wonder why memorandum put this on top of the news ... surely there were more important stories.  I'm sure it will show up on some foxnews broadcast, probably Hannity, certainly Beck, but i doubt it will make NBC, ABC and CBS.

It’s Hard Out Here for the Post

(To the tune of “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”)

You know it's hard out here for the Post (cash flow slowin’)
We just tryin’ to get some money from the folks (not much showin’)
cause without it our reporters will be toast (money owin’).
Cause the ’net an’ all the bloggers got the poop
and the people payin’ bupkes for our scoops.

We just tryin’ to help some lobbyists compete here in this world.
If some businessmen and congressmen an White House personnel
Find they got somethin’ in common, is it wrong for us to sell?
Is it wrong for us to get some love for givin’ it a whirl?

Chorus

Why the blogosphere so negative 'bout our enterprise?
Why they forcin’ us to compromise
Don’t they realize
We got to actualize
Our financial prize?

Chorus

Apparently Obama, speaks out of both sides of his mouth, and is aiming at single-payer healthcare insurance. In other words here is another example of the government, under Obama, ruining another domain of the economy.
Here is the youtube video.

Lots of reasons that's a bad idea check out Medicare for one; rife with fraud ever increasing costs more taxes.
