Just in case you though we were going to hear the actual event ...
source: Christian Science MonitorAnd it’s being met with some media disappointment as well. That’s
because the press isn’t invited to the conversation and the president
doesn’t have plans to talk to the press after the event. ...
Gibbs did say that Crowley and Gates could meet with the press following the meeting if they choose.
... Oh well
... Apparently it is a very risky thing to broadcast live, what's with Gates predilection to hyperventilate and all. We will be left only with Gate's and Crowley's post event remarks, if any. And of course all the kibitzers on the left and the right ... those with microphones and those without ... those who blog and twit ... those who repeat and snit ... etc...

What kind of a guy would invite you "out for a beer" & then broadcast the entire event? Kudos if nobody talks to the press!

Reaction to the president's intervention broke down along racial lines, a blow to a president who wanted to transcend them. In a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Wednesday, 4% of African-Americans blamed Mr. Gates for the arrest, versus 30% who identified the officer as the cause. Among whites, 32% said Mr. Gates was more at fault while 7% blamed Mr. Crowley.

I think this was supposed to be report of the news; but the phrase i highlighted was certainly a opinion - a bad one - and one that should have been labeled as such. I object strongly to mixing opinion and spin when purporting to factually report the news. Thing is this is not even a legitimate fact. Polls come down on racial grounds regardless of events ... not a surprising thing that would be a "blow" to the president. Poll whites and blacks as to whether they think OJ was guilty. That still breaks down dramatically along racial grounds. Nobody in their right mind should have expected that poll to break down any differently, and certainly not the president. No, it was not a blow to him, that is just political spin. The WSJ should be ashamed of its so called reporting.

Me i think this is substantially over and will die down. The beer meeting was a good idea and leaves a cooler taste in the mouth rather than the bitter one following the event. Right wing pundants and bloggers will, of course, continue to use the event as an excuse to attack Obama on racial grounds. I wonder how the country will feel should they be successful in their Jehad. What if the first AfroAmerican president goes down in history as a racist? Erroniously i hasten to add, but what if that narrative does stick in some American's craw. Think about it, do you really think that will improve race relations in America? Watch out what you wish for! Watch out what you instigate!

You should look in the mirror & say your seething comments to yourself! You demonstrate in yourself what you hate: a penchant when you are mad to group people together in groups which you mind read instead of treating your opponents as having valid arguments & listening to their concerns with an open mind. Your red-herring buzzwords give you away. Lots of luck getting anyone "together" with that kind of rhetoric.

You are mind reading the president. You are mind reading the public. Polls are polls - always subject to interpretation; that being what polls are conducted to do. Most polls only talk to a couple thousand people out of 300+ million. You should be ashamed for getting so serious about polls. This was cited to show that not much had changed between the races & political parties by Obama holding or about to have a beer with Gates & Crowley. On another note apparently Gates & Crowley will hold some more meetings according to another source which you can probably find yourself.

Well i don't see how that could have been the case at all. If you want to show a change caused by an event, you need to measure before and after the event.
Reporting that there was a "a blow to a president" when that was not the case and then excusing it because of one's own confusion, is not a laughing matter. My point is that so called journalists at the WSJ are making up spin in places where they are expected to report facts. I don't think that is a laughing matter either. I'm just starting to notice when the messenger from the media goes beyond the facts at hand. This really should concern you ... seriously ... it is a nonpartisan problem ... you should take it up in your group UnhackTheBrain.
