Apparently there has been nothing wrong with Democracy in the last day or two!

My problem with a strict democracy has been expressed in Heinline's quote:
The America of my time line is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies, what has eventually happened to all perfect democracies throughout all histories. A perfect democracy, a "warm body" democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction.... [O]nce a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader — the barbarians enter Rome. (Heinlein)
Luckily we don't have a strict democracy.  We have a secondary check as a republic of states. We're a democratic republic!

Without that restraint (prop 13 et. al. )we in California would be as broke as Obama's national government. It's the only ray of light in a dismal nonfunctional national spending orgy.
Well doen't seem to be working.  Your going broke and paying your debts with IOUs.
Yep, that's another case where the Democrat Party has control of the legislature!

Well the Heinline bug-a-boo (the HBAB) does not seem to actually have happened.  Look at California, they now have  voted so many laws on the book about not raising taxes that their state is substantially non-functional.  And those laws were enacted as initiatives and voted in by all those warm bodies and not legislated by their representatives.  What works against the HBAB is that tax payers don't like to pay taxes, and will vote again and again to lower them.  If you doubt that, watch your bond measures go down time and time again.  Your fear of parasites taking over the population, not withstanding.

I have no fear of parasites taking over the population - they already have. I want to kick them back out!
