Collaborative writing software online with Writeboard. Write, share, revise, compare.

Hey, I can't find the RTE ... and i though you could draw on a white board.   I mean you do bold like *bold*

And this is what Scobel thinks M$ should buy?

Oh, by the way, 37 Signals' Writeboard is already out, and, yes, I think we'll all talk about it over the next 24 hours since it just opened up. I created one. Looks interesting, but I wish I could link off of my Whiteboard. That wasn't obvious. It looks like a dumbed down Wiki, to tell you the truth.
err ... apparently that was just a rumor.

To be honest with you I feel stupid having chased theis rumor
source:  I got it from zdnet
In the meantime, Rafat Ali of PaidContent thinks the acquisition target should be 37Signals
but that was just sloppy reading.

Incidentally my test whitboard is here.
I also made a backpack russellseth

Now that's just retarded ... like the only kind of useful link is to another backpack page.  why am i spending so much time on this

Let me know if you sign on to the whiteboard. I would like to see if your edits show up on my screen in real time.

Seth says
Now what would be cool is if when we go into the RTE box editing the same item that your edits would show up on my screen. I think that is possible with AJAX. On the open source RTE box project [see: item 1124] i think i remember some discussion about hooking the box up with AJAX.

... check out their application gallery

well, i edited something onto your whiteboard
I dont call this a white board unless we share the same space at the same time.

im assuming that if you use XMLHttpRequest in a javascript (the RTE box), then you are talking Ajax.  Right?

i didn't find any ajax in your references. i can't see why updating your screen with what I have is kewl except that it might prevent having to recycle the page to see if a response has shown up yet. Is that what you are referring to?
we are trying to be in the same space in real time.

Seth says
So the only thing they have that is not in place here (+more) is comparing different versions back in the history.

Sorry i couldnt restrain myself, just had to comment on Scoble's blog.

Are you also tired of reading about web based project management software ? Well, you are right about feeling this way, because there are over 220 products like this. And just in case you feel like evaluating them in order to start your own project my advice is: start with JotSpot. It goes well beyond the "online collaboration tools" mindset and actually delivers an application framework melted inside a wiki.

Her's another one that Steve Rubel thinks is better.

An update to my prior post. My readers inform me that 37 Signals has now officially launched Writeboard. It's a free, collaborative word processing application. Cool! Here's a tour of the product. All whiteboards are RSS enabled and one of their intended audiences here is PR professionals, according to this page. It's simple, fast and free. Add a rich editor and it would really be terrific. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as powerful as Writely, which just today added the ability to post to blogs. But when it comes to your data, I certainly feel you can bank on 37Signals. They aint going anywhere. In fact, Scoble thinks Microsoft should buy them.

MSN Chat ? I suppose we could have all of that.... There is the whole spectrum from video conferencing to email and so forth.  M$ has been advertizing the shit out of their Meeting software on TV.
