I found this comment something I wanted to preserve for later research - just skimmed the links briefly.

I don't think a newbie could have figured out how to do that.!!

Mark de LA says
I still lost the context of the item.

Well you could have preserved the context like this.

I did a quote on the item I was interested in and copied it. Then I went * created a new item and pushed the quote mark button and pasted the previous copy there. Essentially I would ask for a bookmark a comment which preserves both the content, author (& his group) and the permalink or item #. I think something like that is mostly for futures.

... but im not so sure even i know how u did that. The quote button on the RTE seems to loose the hyperlinks, so i think you copied the HTML and pasted it in the RTE box in HTML mode ... like this ...

I actually wonder if we should keep the view source on the rte box. The way it went down is that you cannot type in pathalogical HTML in it anyway becasue it will just be sanatized on the server side. Fact is that it is very useful.

I thought you used it for debugging.

Incidentally for more context on my comment which you have bookmarked here [see: item 1389]

... yes but you can use it for other machinations if you are confortable with mucking with html.

hmmm ... well i learn a new trick every day

That's about the only way I thought I could quote a comment on a different item from the one I started out with. (cross item comments)

I think the quote button in the room could carry a reference to the item into the quote block. That alone would do most of what you want and is relatively easy to do.  Then if we could always use the right click menu for copy and paste and if the past in rte would always preserve the hyperlinks, then you would pretty much have your feature right there without some extra protocol.

Where is that button?

i didn't find any ajax in your references. i can't see why updating your screen with what I have is kewl except that it might prevent having to recycle the page to see if a response has shown up yet. Is that what you are referring to?

The bold italic has been implemented.  Hopefully it will be useful enough to pass the screen clutter test.

Just in case nobody noticed, i moved the date of the comment up above the comment just after the author.  It was stupid to put it at the bottom.
