Author rooms

How about author rooms - for an individual to look up all the comments & items by an individual author that are not private.

Actually i have been thinking of that too. Would mean that the author would become a global screen name. Perhaps it could start out open, like it is now, then when someone discovers the author dashboard, they could "claim" their screen name secured by a password and then nobody else could use it.

This sounds like as much fun as trying to find an unused server name these days. I had to try 4-5 separate times to get a name for my new blogger name today. My main purpose which may be more like a search author items or search author comments was to gather all the comments or items by one author in one room to play with.

or [searchauthor item authorname] & [searchauthor comment authorname]

I hear you.  Alternatively we can specify that author is subordinated to group and not even secure it there with password but have the group secrure one's screen name with whatever social means and technological actions that are available to them.

Incidentally you may notice the new button that i am working on called "my page".  This work in progress intends to addres some of your concerns in this item.  I'll talk more about it when i get it working the way i want it to work.

Well almost ... what we now have is a page where you can see all comments by others since last you marked them read.  It is called "my page" and is on the top navigation buttons.

Also, if it is working right, this page will control the highlighting of comments in any room.  The highlighted comments are those which occured since last you clicked to "mark your comments read".

Does this come close to satisfying your wishes ?

I was expecting a room & this is .....? There are authors named Mark in quite a few groups, I assume you knew that. How do you track just one Author ? How do you set it up ?

Actually i started thinking of there being a global author (screen name). But then you brought up a good argument against that. So now i will prolly switch back to a author within group proposition. Bear in mind that we will come under fire on that one, but yes, the "my page" will be more accurate and predictable that way. Perhaps you want to think about that a bit more before i cange it back ....

Actually i have been talking about satisfying the wish Need a function to easily find out new comments and apparently this wish was for something else. Perhaps you will want to revisit your original wish above in the light of this new implementation.

  • This is interesting & I am trying to understand & get used to it. I think it satisfies the comments news requirement. One does need to memvance to each of the items. I suppose it saves time to read the comments first and then go seek out the item. We almost could use an nextunder function.
  • If you want to keep it substantially the same I would probably make the comments the same width as an item's comments - long lines are harder to read. Notice that a newspaper keeps narrow lines in columns.
  • The comment on what is it ? was just to get you to explain it more.

  • I don't understand why we would be under fire & for what.
  • I think a global screen name with the possibility of override would be ok. I like being able to have a different identity in different groups...
  • sometimes however that is a pain in the ass (signing in to each new group) & also wanting to edit an item in a different group from the one I am currently signed in to.
  • A global name with email and a "human check" may be the only way we can prevent spambots from destroying the site. Multiple global names would be ok - just as one can probably do with Blogger.

So the reason I am confused is that this discussion is not over there on 1572. This item is all about finding all the comments by a particular Author, like [searchauthor Bozo] or something.

yes that was my fault, for answeing your request for what basically is an author search room with what was uppermost on my mind, finding new responses.
