Why not use gzip from the command line. Do man gzip for the syntax from the command line. Once you get the right syntax then I can help you write a shell script (probably one line) that you can execute by typing ./zipperoonie myfile1 myfile2 .....

sounds like a plan.  I can give you a zip file later today, or tomorrow.

Alternatively we could unzip the file on your local computer, and then copy the entire html directory recursively with ws_ftp.

The zip file will contain every live file but not the config.php file.  That way once you get the config.php right all you need to do is to:
  1. download the latest release to your local computer - prolly in a folder called release just for that purpose.
  2. extract it
  3. ws_ftp the release/html file to your server
I guess with your proposed method:
  1. download lastes to local
  2. upload to ..webadmin/whatever-domain
  3. telnet to the server
  4. run your script
So which one do you prefer?  If you want to do it your way, then you need to write the script for me ... im not all that good with unix and man and telnet

Which method do you prefer?

a zip of just the changed files which I will download from the release subdirectory of the fastblogit root. I will unzip it to my own local directory and upload it to the icybermind tree. I don't want the whole tree because that involves the flotsam in your structure like the media subdir.

i'm thinking more of a tarball (tar + gzip or bzip2)

Mark de LA says
sorry, I'm having trouble with the tarball:
tar -cvf abc.tar myfile.php ....... will build the right tar
then we need a compress like gzip or bzip2 .... tha'ts where I can't prove I got the right stuff .. ketchup much later, probably sunday

I have a much better idea for now..... just tell me what files have changed & I will transfer them with FTP-pro . They should work on FastBlogIt first.  Later on I will work out a system where we can get automatic notice of files that have been changed. When I get notice I will update icybermind.net.
