Wonderful Crisis NOT Going to Waste, eh?

About: drudge report 2011®

Sorry Drudge for borrowing your headlines, but that is mostly what you do anyway, isn't it? A tragedy is a tragedy; senseless ones seem even more so.
~
At least Drudge is showing the M$M & government span of BS on the latest tragedy.  Pols have to do something to be relevant. Notice even Obama got into the act.  This AM the Occult gets blamed. Let's get out the pitchforks.

So the spectrum of "WHY?" spans right-wingers, left-wingers & the occult.

I would probably look to his parents, & schooling & himself, first. Trying to explain the irrational is as crazy as the original act itself. I think some have fallen into the "Pit of Because".

Well we do make progress by utilizing trauma and crisis ... so to me now i tend to approach crisis with the attitude of "How now can i make things better?".

That said, now here is what i think of the current crisis.  (1) The man was crazy.  He did a crazy thing.  This happens frequently in our culture.  It has come out that his classmates and teachers knew he was prone to do this kind of thing ... they even expressed fear in that regard.  So to me the pertinent question is: what does the nature of psychotic breaks have to be before the authorities intervene?  It appears that in this case the system may have failed in that regard.  But on the other hand, our society needs a certain amount of tolerance to what some people my perceive as insanity ... the alternative would be unthinkable.

(2) ... and totally separate from the considerations in 1 above.  It is stupid to vote for a politician who panders to violent activism.  I wrote an item about this during the campaign, but can't lay my hands upon it now ... bad tagging on my part.  The point being that violence tward the government should not be encouraged.  That is, unless you are actually trying to change the government by violence ... in which case go for it, but don't expect to get my vote.

From the Weekly Standard:

Glenn Reynolds: "The Arizona Tragedy and the Politics of Blood Libel: Those who purport to care about the tenor of political discourse don't help civil debate when they seize on any pretext to call their political opponents accomplices to murder."

/><p class=.... I think that double-nested polarizing blame will eventually get everyone in the Universe for this one. Aren't you ashamed yet? - M.R.

Jen Rubin: "The Arizona tragedy."

Wall Street Journal: "Murder in Tucson: Jared Loughner's sickness is not the product of politics."

Legal Insurrection: "Two Sicknesses On Display in Arizona."

Steve Hayes: "Sometimes A Tragedy Is Just A Tragedy."

John Podhoretz: "The rush to blame."

Ross Douthat: "United in Horror."

I agree substantially with your point (1) above. One might wonder with all the gun laws & regulations how an apparent nut-case managed to get a Glock 9 with an extended magazine.  If you have tangible evidence in (2) that any of those being blamed are actually doing such you should remember that sedition & insurrection are crimes & should be reported to the authorities; whichever party they belong to (;-).
Until the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution is appealed or regulated out of existence, though, political speech is still legal. You should listen to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's (Obama's former pastor) speeches for what apparently is legal.

I like your term "double-nested polarizing blame" ...
... did you get the coin?

I just made that up.  It seemed appropriate for http://fastblogit.com/UnhackTheBrain to identify the peasoup of what is going on now: sort of a blending of the Tao Symbol with the Mad Magazine spy v spy comic strip. Thanks for the acknowledgement, though.

... & campaign rhetoric such as:
McCain rightfully defended Obama this weekend as a "decent family man." Contrast this with Obama himself, who is on record telling supporters who encounter opposite viewpoints to "get in their faces", and that in this campaign "when they bring a knife, we bring a gun." Folks, this is not a negative ad pointing out someone's voting record or shady associations -- these are words from the candidate's mouth, at public events, where kids and families were present. Undecided voters need to ask themselves which kind of example they want from our next Commander-in-Chief.
...
P.S. I am still looking for a YouTube or audio of that one, but it is reported in many places, mostly blogs. However my source says it was
source: ...
On June 14th, 2008, Barack Obama, in Philadelphia: "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun because from what I understand focus in Philly like a good brawl."  is close.
...
Any recordings of that?

WSJ repeats the words here.

Mark de LA says
This is a fair account/summary of the shooter's life & the last days before he did it from the NY Times.  & in other news of not wasting a crisis predictably gun control by NY sen. Schumer (D) is brought up.
