Usability

I think a way to go directly from an Author link in comments or a group link in an item to a sign on page for that group would enhance usability - or at least make it a right mouse menu option. The fields in the enter/leave portal should be automatically filled in to make this work.

THanks for the suggestions! My primary goal for this was when I wanted to see what else a commentator had in their group by clicking on their name & if I know their password type it in. Some groups are hard to grok exact words , particularly when there is some kind of volume here. Suggesting passwords is a bad idea.

Well, maybe that won't work! But, If I am in one group & I click to enter another group using the enter/exit button the details of that room should be available there instead of the group I am signed into.

When (and if) we save every group name that you have access to in your cookie, we may be able to do more of this kind of thing. Bear in mind that the server (or cookie) cannot fill in your password for obvious security reasons. On my setting of FF my password does not end up in the suggestions, and i am not sure why it does not, it seems to me that it should. But that is a client side facility and not a server side thing, .... or at least i dont know how to send it different html to have it behave differently.

Here are some ideas to consider that may make what you are doing easier:

choose passwords that are easy to remember and type
make your interactions primarialy from one group. The way group interactions happen here i have a feeling that people will opt to write their itmes primarially from their own group and use tags to position them so that others see them in the right context. Private conversations are the exception to this and do require entering the private group to become privy to the conversation. Perhaps there is some other way to provide multiple private conversations without incessantely needing to enter\exit those groups.

The easiest way to say this is that if you click into (enter) a group to which you are not signed into - ease the transition by filling in the information (sans password) in the enter/exit screen.

This is similar & probably part of solving the sign in problem. It s/b combined with the other one (wherever it is)
