I'm going to totally revise this site. Some of the objectives are listed below:

(done) Allow email of submissions. see About: Open Mic
Simplify screens so that they read better in screen readers and on mobile devises such as pods.

modeled after twitter mobile app
3 navigation buttons on top
1 column instead of 3
font size adapted to screen size of devise

tagging done with #hash in description instead of separate entries - a tag room is a search

i'm thinking that i should allow raw twitter text which parses like this according to saturnboy or like this | according to snipplr repeating snip.net

But with a twist : allow for anchoring of hyperlinks where the text preceding a link automatically becomes the anchor for the link ... but you can clear the anchor text by inserting a | character. For example:

text a http://a text b http://b becomes ...

text a text b becomes ...

and

i want to tell you about Saturn boy but maybe ill just link to him http://saturnboy.com/ and you can examine | his code http://saturnboy.com/2010/02/parsing-twitter-with-regexp/ for yourself

I don't know if i want to show the "|" character or exclude it. I think if it is kept, then it will help people remember and learn the new syntax.

Security:

The whole idea here is to simplify. People are always stumbling on barriers to access. So we want to remove as many as possible. Making up and remembering passwords is one such barrier. But we do need to control certain features such as voting, uploading, deleting and editing. And we need to communicate back to our clients, hence we need at least an email address.

Thing is you can't get an email address on the web without having already made up a password for it. So to use that, all we need do is to verify that a client has control of the email account they are using to post, vote, or edit. To do that we send an email to that address and if the client can click on a secret hyperlink in that email which can come only from receiving an email, then we grant them access to the controlled features.

As the client verifies control of their email address, we store a cookie on that machine and that browser. The cookie contains the pair (email, cookiepassword) which then to be valid must match a similar pair on our server files. All browsers on all computers get the same pair after it is verified on that browser.

Then again if you could find another mouse hosting a pair of lips as in the picture below you might have something. BTW, not to stress this too much, but your clients probably would be more anchored by a trademark sound! (maybe a unique fart whistling dixie).

maybe translating that small part to a cartoon style black and white line drawing might be worth a try.

I'm sure that Elaine could improvise on a variation of this theme & even make it more cute. I still think you should consider the sound version of a trademark.

Elaine doesn't seem to want to do this kind of art anymore.

Because this bubbled up again in the River I browsed around to remember what it's primary purpose is. I am speculating that it an attempt to build an audio web or an audio fastblogit. Otherwise it looks to me like hosting a bunch of audio files with tags in the cloud. Why not voice print security?

it is about my dev work at tagtalking.net ... and it is me trying to figure out what i was doing there to actually implement a blind singing contest ... which i am now trying to take up and actually do this year ... if not next year.

My current dream is that such a contest would be much better connected to the rest of social media than it was back in 2009 when we first had it and it was just primarily that one website. There are now many choices for contestants hosting files ... i'd like to be able to let as many of those work. Also many more ways people can vote. Also i am trying to have the contest more of a live event with programs streamed the same time each week followed by voting ... probably at WICS.cc but also potentially syndicated.

Lots of work ... probably need to solicit a team to do it first.
