What characters are permitted in tags ?

Tag strings contain words composed of
- lower case letters a-z
- digits 0-9
- and the spcial characters . ~ @ $ ^ * _ - |
The words in a tag must be separated by only a single space
A tag may not contain more than 25 characters including the embedded spaces.
There can be no leading or trailing spaces.

One almost wonders that because of [title winnies complanint] whether the first character of a tag should be required to be a alphabetic character. That would effectively force the list to be strickly alphabetic and would end forever this stupid fight to be on top or bottom of the list. That meaans that any special tag functioning would need to be done at the end of the tag. The censors tag would become things like "nudity|" or "porn|". This actually liberates how we define the syntax of tags. "groups" would always sort in the g's ... the system tag for the group headers could be "groups*" ... we could choose any special character whatever.

another advantage of making ~ exclusively for tagging intentional items is that when you have the urge to satisfy something .. to do something ... and are just looking for something to do or to satisfy ... whell then just type in ~ in the live search and there is a whole list of things to do or find or satisfy.

A geeky character is a geeky character no matter where it shows up. Now they will be intermixed in the whole taglist. Are you preventing $ from being used by ordinary humans ? If not people will eventually use them so that their tags show up first.

that is why i have proposed requiring that the first character be a-z.
