Why do we Need a Secretary of the Treasure if we are Broke?

About: discredited - mark steyn - national review online

The America of my time line is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies, what has eventually happened to all perfect democracies throughout all histories. A perfect democracy, a "warm body" democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction.... [O]nce a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader " the barbarians enter Rome. (Heinlein)
The above answers that question (or not)  - below Congress & Obama are shown how to handle the debt by a trained seal while they watch the circus:

... & the treasurer wants 2 trillion more!

... can this problem actually be resolved by Government or an election ??? (11/16/2011) - see debt clock here.  When an individual goes bankrupt a judge from the outside has to restructure his life for him/her back to where he can be responsible for his previous actions & start over.  Who is to do that for the US Government? ... for the European socialist countries like Greece?

What is even more interesting in the debt clock is the debt clock time machine obtained by clicking in the upper right hand corner of the debt clock.  It projects that in 2015 - (the last year of the next president) the debt will exceed the GDP & be  134% of it. The debt itself will be 23.6 trillion$$$ & the GDP will only be 17.5 trillion$$$.  At that point I wonder who is going to buy our debt?

The clowning of America is complete!

As President Barack Obama pushes to raise income taxes on high earners, opponents are seizing on data that indicates these U.S. households already pay a large and growing share of taxes, even compared with high-tax European countries. And a new congressional study concludes that the percentage of U.S. households owing no federal income tax climbed to 51% for 2009. ...

Received in the email today:
I  became confused when I heard the word "Service" used with these agencies:
Internal Revenue  'Service
U.S. Postal  'Service'
Telephone  'Service'
Cable TV 'Service
Civil  'Service'
State, City, County & Public 'Service'
Customer
'Service'
This is not what I thought 'Service' meant.
But today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to 'Service' a few cows.
BAM!!!  It all came into focus.
Now I understand what all those agencies are doing to us.
You are now as enlightened as I am!

From the Citizenship Project on Facebook:
A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority (who vote) will vote for those candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest democratic nations has been 200 years.

Each has been through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith.
From faith to great courage.
From courage to liberty.
From liberty to abundance.
From abundance to complacency.
From complacency to selfishness.
From selfishness to apathy.
From apathy to dependency.
And from dependency back again into bondage.

Can we escape this fate?

If you want to take a look at a tipping point follow Greece's path, probably out of the EU.
