continuous retrievable taggable memory of our thoughts and productions

i'm wondering if there is any way to achieve continuous retrievable taggable memory of our thoughts and productions in this dynamic multi-vendor social cloud ...

This cries out for usecases & definition of what you are talking about.

Wow this was an old thought ... took me a moment to remember what it was about.  I think it was about wanting to to be able to tag what we do on facebook, G+, and other places in the online cloud ... and that the history of statuses and updates would go back forever ... right now i believe that at least at facebook probably scrolls off into oblivion.  In other words i want it to be like here at facebook.  Also in there is the idea that one is not bound to just one website ... but that the tagging and memory system goes beyond the company that you are conversing with.  Tagged memory would be a global resource that internet companies could utilize in their apps which they provided to their end users ... kind of like the electricity is provided by the electrical grid.   So people would own the credentials to their own tagged memory ... could move it to whatever app they wanted ... whether that was on a iPad or a Android or facebook or G+ or twitter or whatever.

I thought there were already bookmark apps that reside in the cloud - maybe even some like Google's  toolbar bookmark feature.
this idea/dream is not just about bookmarks ... it's about all "memory of our productions" ... meaning all the text, graphics, viedos and any other media.  The revolutionary part of the idea is to separate the utility function of storing and retrieving files and records from the applications.  The traditional (or evolved) providers of apps like facebook, google, twitter, etc would only provide the apps ... they would need to interact with the memory/storage utilities to get at your data.

The only i can think of this working is if when you paid for your internet access you also would pay for your memory storage ... it might add 5-20 dollars a month to that bill ... but then you would be in control of your own data and it's privacy, dissemination and preservation.

... which brings me to a G+ question: if i comment on somebody else's item, who owns the data that comprises the text of my comment? ... for example here at G+ or say at facebook.com or on somebody's blog?

Well what you sound like you need is to scale up fastblogit & offload the media files to googl- like massive servers.

Yep massive servers is what is necessary.  In many cases i already use google to store my media files ... for various reasons they do it better and more reliably than i could do myself.  But it is not only the media files, it is also the database.  That needs to be in the cloud too and not hosted over at In-motion.

Another way to look at this is to think that everybody has their own personal server for the data and media that they own.  That server is just not on their premises, but rather in the cloud.  Your data here at fastblogit would not be stored on a fastblogit.com server, but rather on a server perhaps with the domain name russell.mark.1234.me.  The fastblogit.com application would be authorized by you to make requests of data from russell.mark.1234.me to server to the browsing public when you so authorized it to do so.

The variation here in this idea that was kind of new to the idustry was the idea that you could separate the application servers (which now are run by the facebooks and googles) from the data servers (which could be run by more utility oriented companies).

i mentioned this on G+ here ... who knows, maybe somebody who really knows this topic may comment there.

I still think you need to disabuse yourself of the idea that the mataphor of the cloud is real.  All so-called cloud data resides on central (relative to their users) servers somewhere.  They are only as permanent as the companies who own the servers & the the periodic backup processes they follow. Maybe someday we will be able to do quantum storage in actual clouds but, not today.  I like the idea of addressable off site storage but the metaphor exceeds the reality.

Data in the cloud is distributed across many servers; it does not always get transmitted from the same "central server".  That situation developed from the necessity of keeping servers up and running 24/7 in a reliable fashion.  Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Google, facebook, etc have been doing that for a long time now.  It is only a political or economic reasons that allows those companies to own our data.  So yes, the predicament we find ourselves in now where  your data is "only as permanent as the companies who own the servers" is exactly the problem that i am whaling against here.
