I Wonder Why?

Everywhere I go on the Internet these days I see someone complaining about some corporation or person making too much money as if eveyone must suffer equally in depression (or recession). I wonder why I don't go down the road to jealousy & anger when I hear about people & corporations making a lot of money or not paying as much in taxes as  somebody else. I celebrate it. I celebrate beating the tax man because the government doesn't spend money wisely or in an accountable way - they do some of the stupidest things with our money.  I don't think it is necessarily a zero-sum game - because one person or a group makes a lot of money that another group lost it or was ripped off.  Money is not my way of keeping score in life.  My notion of fairness is more about the way we treat each other rather how much taxes each one of us can afford to pay.

There must be a reason why the 10 commandments have had sugh a huge battle about their display in public & government buildings, imho.  Outside of the 1st amendment establishment clause problem, which problem is phony, I say it is mostly about the "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL" thingy.  In general most commerce is conducted in accordance with this one.  In general the government ignores it.

"Yeah, cuz if there's one group of people who hate hand outs it's Wall Street." ... bill maher

Like Bill Maher should stick to comedy ... oops! I forgot he flubs at that too!  This is OT anyway - nice try!

manipulating a conversation, saying OT, when all you are spouting is propaganda with on focus except your own political hatreds to guide your train of though is in fact laughable
You have not addressed, explained or countered anything in the basic item @S'th - not a good example of consciousness.  I'll give you an B+ in mocking (R4R#5) & an F in sticking to the topic or R4R#11.

Well, Mark, i have expressed this quite a number of times and you have not yet addressed the points that i have made.  It is not about envy.  Talking about envy is just to change the subject.

The president hinted at what, for me, is the legitimate awareness in the state of the union address ...

We don’t begrudge financial success in this country. We admire it. When Americans talk about folks like me paying my fair share of taxes, it’s not because they envy the rich. It’s because they understand that when I get tax breaks I don’t need and the country can’t afford, it either adds to the deficit, or somebody else has to make up the difference – like a senior on a fixed income; or a student trying to get through school; or a family trying to make ends meet.

... so yes cut government to the minimum ... eliminate programs and regulations that are not helpful and can be better replaced with a free market, charity, or state and local government  (what are the specific things we want to eliminate?)  ... but unless we are prepared to totally get the federal government out of the its constitutional job of "promoting the general welfare", then somebody needs to be taxed.  I don't think we need to subsidize the oil industry or agri-businesses instead of financing college educations or subsidizing renewable energy.   But that is just me, what choices would you make?

So it really is about choices of where we put our resources.  Talk about the trade offs ... delve into those details.  Then we would really get into being conscious of what is going on.

Maybe for you it's not about envy, but Obama is doing a populist-class-envy campaign! He should get his hands off of other people's resources.

All we have to remember is the Oil for Food program for Saddam Hussein which corrupted a UN Secy General's son & lots of underlings.
... but it doesn't work .

Wow, i don't see anything wrong with retooling for sustainability.  In fact, were people of the world to take it seriously, we would have the biggest economic boon the world has ever seen.

... of course, your mileage, along with Rush Limbaugh's, the Drudge report, and all of the Republican candidates for president of the USA is going be be varying.

Well, shit-asses of the UN notwithstanding; your idea & mine & the UN is just shitting words. Let's take all the wealth of the rich countries & give it away to the poor countries in the style of Obama's Robin Hood philosophy. The UN can't even manage it's own finances & personnel - let alone a whole economy of the World. Barf.
