So we are revisiting history again. We are approximately in the same place GW Bush was in with Iraq with intelligence reports that Saddam Hussein was developing WMD & possibly resurrecting his nuclear program. GW2 was held in the context of 9/11. In the current case of Iran, we have a theocracy with extremists who believe in martyrdom. IAEA reports of nuclear progress. Iran furthermore would like to wipe out Israel & the US - mostly in that order the latter being suicide by war.

For all you who bashed Bush for Gulf War 2 - what would you advise Obama to do? Is it OK for Iran to have a nuke in the context of World peace? Can Obama persuade the UN to inspect thoroughly & transparently Iran's nuclear capabilities?

if we elect Romney, will have a new war with Iran. And if you re-elect Obama, we won't.

... It matters little whether we start it, or Israel starts it, or for that matter if Iran starts it. If there is a hawk in the white house, we will have a war. Obama is not a hawk and i think he will keep us out of such a war.

There are astute analysts who say that a surgical strike against the nuclear facilities will not work and at best will only delay and force even more underground secret work. Not only that it will unify the people of Iran against the west and sweep the rug out of any possible internal regime change. Better to just continue with non military delaying tactics and perhaps even sabotage (see what happened here).

so far Obama has improved our position in the world. He is doing just fine. Continuing to get us out of wars, and as far as i can tell encouraging democratic regimes to spring up in the middle east, and most of all not getting us into any more wars. It's looking like his policy in Syria is starting to maybe pay off. Iran is only a threat if you drum them up to be so.

Well, I would disagree with your characterization of our position as "improved" at all. Iran is still closer to the bomb that she was at the start of his term. Encouraging the rise of Islamist regimes in Egypt & Libya is hardly an improvement. Basically he has done nothing except badmouth America to curry favor without result. But if you like withdrawal, perhaps a partial isolationism, then Ron Paul is really your man.

BTW if in withdrawl you just put the troops somewhere nearby like Kuwait & others in Australia - no peace dividend will be realized. Obama or the CBO will have to recalculate the debt reduction assumptions. Putting advisors in Africa is not a good sign either. The vietnam war started with advisors in the country to assist the government there.
