The parallel grows stronger to the militarization of Europe in the lead up to World War II which I watched on the History Channel last night. On behalf of whom are these weapons & show of strength to be used? ... & against whom? The biggest Federal Department spends billion$$$ in grants on weapons etc: http://projects.cironline.org/police-grants

Privacy advocates say the measure will lead to widespread use of drones for electronic surveillance by police agencies across the country and eventually by private companies as well.

“There are serious policy questions on the horizon about privacy and surveillance, by both government agencies and commercial entities,” said Steven Aftergood, who heads the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation also is “concerned about the implications for surveillance by government agencies,” said attorney Jennifer Lynch.

The provision in the legislation is the fruit of “a huge push by lawmakers and the defense sector to expand the use of drones” in American airspace, she added.

... perhaps eavesdrop on electronic transmission from private citizens? How far up does my ownership of the air above my property go? The fourth amendment:

As always, it is most important that this be transparent & open rather than secret & controlled by the ruling elite or the corrupt & desperate or the self-appointed manipulators of national destiny within the intelligence community. I really wonder what private entities need drones for except perhaps industrial espionage.

I guess when you start seeing these drones flying around, they will not be all that secret.
Well according to my spies the reason they are successful is that they are hard to see. It's when they get armed that I deem it too late!   The part that is secret that I want open is who wants them? why ? what are they to be used for specifically, how do they argue that it is not a violation of the 4th amendment; why not restrict them to the borders instead of the interior of CONUS. Are they part of the failed War on Drugs? What will they do about the hundreds of illegals they can see crossing the borders - ignore them as they do mostly now?
... etc. By the time they are bought & deployed it is a bit too late & a huge waste.  BTW, as an afterthought who benefits in the manufacture, purchase & deployment of such things? How many of them were contributers to Obama's PACS & campaigns?
