On the Good Side of Media

About: the be good tanyas - junkie song - youtube

Sometimes a song & a video go a lot further than politicians & bloviation & other words.  Laws & money is really not the answer. I think an internal revelation is needed first & maybe a few tears shed in shame.

It's an evolutionary thingy - neither opening the floodgates to drugs nor puting every one that uses, distributes etc. in jail for 50 years.  I think in the Middle East they just chop off your head or hands.  First, as the song inspired, we have to begin to think of people in distress as human.....
Similar theme in:  It's a Human Thing by the same group: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd1Ie370rHk

makes you wonder if getting the criminal money out of drugs by making them legal would eliminate much of the problem.

The Nixon admin ~ 1971 apparently has the coin for War on Drugs & the history of such is here
Must have been modeled after the successful (NOT) War on Alcohol (1920-1933).  It is interesting that the current admin says the coin is counter-productive but the policies stand.  That must be modeled after the word terrorism got obsoleted.

The only way I can think of doing that is to de-generalize the use of Money.  Health care dollars vs military dollars vs etc.   Not likely.  Anyway a black market grows bigger with restriction. Wholesale prices of some drugs has gotten cheaper in the last 12 years
A person has first to be inspired out of hopelessness.
didn't really want to try to solve the drug problem here just point out a brownie point for some media.

if you make drugs legal to sell and possess, then criminals cannot make money on them (period).  Why do you say"The only way I can think of doing that is to ..." ?  Now whether that is politically possible or whether it would have the desired effect is another matter entirely and one, i agree, we will not be settling here.

Well, continuing on in the direction I didn't want to go .... Do you suppose that there are more or less alcoholics in the population today since the prohibition experiment failed?  Pretty soon you get companies that now make alcohol products begin to put other drugs in them. (vodka jello in vending machines? is possible). Under age laws hasn't limited drug use nor alcohol use to the over 18 crowd.  A more intense, targeted, realistic etc. Just Say NO! multi-media production for kids in school & corporate business might help. Answer the question in the multi-media expose Do you really want to end up this way? ...  ,(again I'm just thinking out loud)

National Geographic Channel has being doing some interesting series on Drug Wars, Border Wars & Drugs Inc.  The problem, if there is one, is quite complex & relates to poverty as well as personal choices.
