Problems for politicians - new ideas

It is often said that a candidate is liberal on social issues but a fiscal conservative on others. This is just one of many combinations in the combinatorics of political positions. If you consider that there are social, economic & military/rights domains then a +/- (liberal/conservative) polarity gives you 8 combinations for just 3 domains. If you count by issues you get even more. This is why Ron Paul is hard to put in a political box except perhaps Libertarian.

The proper place for lobbyists is hard to place. I would first put them amongst the guilds or the capital - not at all in government in a threefold commonwealth.

Might as well just do this for the top 2 candidates Mitt & RP and then do the same for OBAMA who goes for more jobs & has anti-job policies; goes for the 99% but bleeds the 1% for campaign contributions & spends like a 1%er. etc. Freedom shows up according to context. Complete freedom is anarchy without self-control. More when I see your matrix.

I definitely think it is a good idea to make a matrix and log the candidates + or - within it.

The other thing that i have noticed and even blogged about is that, on some candidates, you will find situations where they are (+) for greater economic freedom, yet (-) want more government interfearance in social matters. To me that is a telling contradiction ... and i suspect that they are just picking and choosing demographics within which to pander to voters ... in other words, they really do not believe their stated convictions.

liberty (freedom)
equality
fraternity

The +/- (more/less) in each of these categories could be spread across a lot of separate fields like health care; money/spending; education; ....etc.

Do those quizzes place you on a grid or yield some kind of profile? Did you take any? Are you willing to point to the results? Are there any quizzes that do yield some kind of profile that ends up with a URL of the profile afterwards?

I tend to agree with you, you do need more than 2 dimensions, probably 3 beyond that it becomes hard to visualize and i'm not so very sure that people 4+ dimensions would tease out the real profiles.
