cleaning up tags

For whatever reason people are reluctant to delete items that have become useless. But, following a suggestion by Mark [title Anyone can change all the tags on an item - intensional ?], there is an easy way for anybody to clean these up, even if you are not a member of the group in which the item was posted. Just visit the permalink of the item and delete all the tags. This very effectively flushes the item into oblivion.

The more we clean up the tags list, the more effective tags will become. Then we can focus on what is really important !

BTW... I still insist that there is no way to get from the tag to the item it belongs to if your search ends up in an Empty Room. I've created a lot of groups, some accidently anonymous, some not. How do I know which one caused the tag?

This only becomes a problem where there has been extensive use of private items. It is one reason not to make an item private unless there is a overiding reason to do so. That said, the only way i can think of is for the system to tattle about the tags on private items. It could list the groups that contain item that are private. You could make that a feature wish.

Tags. I would obviously prefer that the author deleted the items when they are of no more use, or at least modify the tags after the items have served their use and are just hanging around for some other value. But i cannot legislate that that will happen. So that i do not need to operate in a cluttered space and so that the tags become more effective for fingind things when i need them, I (and i hope others as well) will endevour to clean up and improve our tagrooms hense making our folksonomy more effective.

A copy facility for items from one group to another would also let us edit & triage the good stuff out to a different area. PS .. I think of groups as partitions.

The "normal" (normal for the blogosphere) way that is done is to go to the permalink of the item and fastblog it in the group where you want it ... err ... just like bookmarking a foreign url.

Eventually we will have inport/export even of permalinks. You export a Atom file with that one item in it, then import that to whatever group. It is possible that we will have a "repeat" function which does that automatically ... shades of the whole information,ownership dialogue that i had with Shelley and Adam. I mean if you repeat my item, do you not owe me a royalty?

Well, here's a thought... (I was referring to items internal to FastBlogIt domain)... since it is owned by the host, who pays for the hosting, why not warn everyone who posts here that their material cannot be copyrghted within FastBlogIt (or maybe just that which can be viewed in the Common River can't be copyrighted.)

I consider, and it should prolly be states officially here, that the authors own the copyright on the information that they post. I believe that is the normal situation in the blogosphere. This is a utility service. We do not own the information. We, the host, has the right to display it and to process it in any manner that we deem appropriate.
