Flukes of Natural Order

I must have blinked one too many times the other day because when I opened my eyes it seems that morals & values came up for a vote & lost to Catholic-bashers & Obamaphiles in spite of the first amendment to the United States Constitution. All of that for just a bit more than the price of a couple of beers.
It's probably not going to be a biggie for most of you until one of your morals or values is violated.  As I said elsewhere: when nothing is sacred you aren't either! AND where nothing is sacred neither is your life nor the lives of your children nor your beliefs. When life is not sacred Wars are OK & all the rest - get it yet?
As I always counsel there is no substitute for consciousness during these moments or if it happens again, in the words of Kelly Clarkson: "Don't Do That"

Just for the fun of it, i responded, sans propoganda, to this tempest over on facebook here.  I can grant that kind of response is not as dramatic containing less pathos ... perhaps even less effect.  The question is whether it is more useful and more persuasive to anyone who has not already made up their mind.

Selective outrage from M$M and the misanthrope left:

Maher To Limbaugh: I Can Call Palin C**t, ‘I Don't Have Sponsors' & I don't watch him either. He's certainly NOT a liberarian even though he lies about being one.

Mark de LA says
I like Rush's take on the whole tempest in a teapot - similar to Wag the Dog movie - the libs wagged a condom & the GOP bit.  In reality nobody in the GOP was advocating getting rid of contraception when this all started out.

Mark de LA says
It's ok for all the libs in the M$M to crack nasty jokes & wink about Palin & even call her a cunt, but not Rush to assert a phoney lib female as a slut?  Selective outrage - you betcha!

I actually listened to the broadcast live & he was backing out of having called her a slut while making the case that she wants someone else to support her sexual escapades (buy her condoms or birth control).  Naturally only the obamafish of contraception & slut ever made the M$M. I already explained why she was a phoney.

Mark de LA says
You folks fail to detect the logical object in the first place.
Rush: ... And that's why they wanted to change the subject from whether or not he behaved unconstitutionally in mandating churches give away abortion pills (or birth control pills), to: "Republicans don't agree with contraception!" It's totally made up. There's not a Republican out there that wants to ban contraception. There's not a Republican in the world that, as a political issue, wants anything to do with it. It's totally manufactured, and it's succeeded in distracting everybody's attention from what Obama had done, and it's meant to portray the Republicans as Neanderthal troglodytes while the party of Bill Clinton (who's destroyed Monica Lewinsky's life among others) is held up as God's gift to women! Everything's 180 degrees out of phase.
...to you.

Now let's see the Lame-stream Media go after Bill Maher:

Will Obama Super PAC Return Misogynist Bill Maher's Million-Dollar Donation?
source: ... Maher has called Palin a “dumb twat” and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann “boobs” and “two bimbos.” He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, “She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.” He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job. Maher said of a woman who was harassed while breast-feeding at an Applebee’s, “Don't show me your tits!” as though a woman feeding her child is trying to flash Maher. (Here’s a way to solve his problem: don’t stare at a strangers’ breasts). Then, his coup de grâce: “And by the way, there is a place where breasts and food do go together. It’s called Hooters!”
... ... See if they recommend that HBO be boycotted until Maher loses his show!

Well it will be interesting whether in the long run this will damage the Limbaugh brand.

Strangely enough Bill OReilly did a talking points memo eloquently stating the valid points behind the Limbaugh snark sans the stupidity.  I actually tend to agree with him, contraceptives should not be paid by insurance, but rather by individuals.

My only complaint with O'Reilly's memo is that it still did a switch of objects that served to confuse:   "Sexual activity" is NOT "contraception".  Those are different topics.  Fluke's statements were about contraception and not about her sexual activities ... not once in her statement did she mention her sexual activities ... nor were they the topic of the hearing.  When one pays for contraception, one is not paying for the sexual activity (period).  That kind of malicious switching of objects is something that we need to weed out of our political thinking.  And, yes, i know how one logically extrapolates from "contraception" to "sexual activity".   But when we think about something we need to consistently keep our objects always point to the exact same thing, otherwise we can end up twisting things to whatever we want ... then our minds end up being just confused and mushy ... eh?
Much more succinct: NO sex NO contraception needed!
Hey, why stop there?  .... NO sex NO people !  .... see where the switching of objects ends up ... mush.
Which is apparently the purpose of CONTRACEPTION!

Well, to be precise ...

    (contraception purposeOf (eliminate (concenquences-of sex)))

..... mush on, bro!

Go BACK & look at the cartoons above - they make more sense than your mushy tack.

Only to sarcastic libs whose legs tingle at the sight of Obama.  Limbaugh is not a commedian he's a commentator.

That's a funny one ... ... many right wing commentators are giving Limbaugh a pass ... why? ... well just because he is an "entertainer" ... and not a "commentator" ... in fact in his own apology he said exactly that ... and i quote ...

Aren't jokes suppose to be funny?  Did you laugh?
I don't watch Maher - he lost me years ago when he adopted a snide demeanor which only amused him & his captive audience.  Rush has amusing parodies which I can find quite a laugh about most of the time. Like I said the slut episode was making a point about a phoney lib on contraceptives & was not a joke.

Can we draw any valid comparisons ... no we can not!  The media, whether left or right, is not a coherant moral actor ... and it is rediculous to hold "it" accountable for not treating event A symmetrical to event B.   That is because news  is subject to the forces of the attention market ... and for me, that is why i find politicians who attack the media instead of answering their questions rediculous.

Boycotts are mob action caused by distortions stirred up by incitement from the lame-stream media. Not my cup of tea.

See Saul Alinsky, Jesse Jackson & extortion, & the whole sub-prime loan bubble for the dark side of such things.

So are you rejecting what Ron Paul said about using boycotts to solve the problems of people with disabilities?
Moving beyond polarized thinking I actually support it to the extent he aligns also with Clint Eastwood. One size does not have to fit all.  I am against boycotts which I have expressed quite clearly above.

I still don't understand what you are saying.  Ron Paul suggested boycotts as a mechinism to fix accessibility problems for disabled people.  You seem to be against boycotts for any reason.   I'm not trying to argue, just trying to find out how you would solve particular accessibility problems without using boycotts or even having the ability to sue?

Incidentally this is not really a partisan issue between us.  I watched the clip because i am still considering supporting Ron Paul because he has the most consistent message against warmongering and bloating governmental intrusion in our lives ... so i do believe we are on the same page here.  But this disability thingy is a real problem for real people and i am in the middle of it in several aspects of my life.

Yeah! Sometimes boycotts backfire: http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/06/investors-flee-carbonite-after-limbaugh-announcement/   ... that's why I am for selective spending instead

On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his company’s website declaring that Carbonite had decided to “withdraw” advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will “ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse”:

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

However, it hasn’t done much to contribute to his company’s stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.

...

Strangely engouh there is an alternative explanation:  Limbaugh owned a large block of Carbonite stock, when the CEO pulled the ads, Limbaugh sold his shares and that drove the stock price down.  Limbaugh lost two ways.
Then apparently Carbonite lost 2 ways - thanks for pointing that out. I was prepared to point out my own unpleasant experience with Carbonite - maybe just a bit later it this gins up again.

Yes, it brings up the whole question of whether boycotts are an effective way to fix things in a free market ... or not. Watch Ron Paul on ADA.

Although Ron Paul & the ADA have nothing to do with Fluke, I watched Ron Paul for your facebook post @S.
The ADA burdens small businesses with more red tape, lawsuits & some illogical requirements that don't scale down to size - there is little doubt about it. Want more jobs?  Clean up the ADA to be more friendly to small business. See 15835 for more suggestions on bathrooms.

Answer the real question: where is the ADA inadequate first.  I oppose boycotts simply because they are mob rule. Do as you like. When you answer the question I will be able to answer yours.

I don't know where (or even if) ADA is inadequate.  This came up this morning because of one of my disabled friends on facebook linded to the Ron Paul clip with the following comment ...
source: Jamie Murray on facebook here
I was a strong supporter for Ron Paul until I saw this video. I do understand what he is saying, but the laws were passed to protect the disabled, because we kept getting discriminated against. I shouldn't have to deal with the degrading and humiliating treatment, and harassment, just because we are disabled and/or use a service animal. We have a right to enjoy the same things everyone else takes for granted. I do hate government interference, but sometimes, its the government is the only thing that can help guarantee that right to equal treatment. As for the disabled parking issue, those parking places were put there to make sure a disabled person has the same access opportunities to the building. I am sorry my rights for equal access, trumps your laziness!
... but Ron Paul seemed to be vehemently against ADA and perhaps if he was paired with an appropriate congress would repeal or severely obstruct that law.  That direction, however obscure, is something that I need to be considered when considering my support for a candidate or a political philosophy.

Mark de LA says
I suspect that your friend's experience of "being discriminated against" is 2nd or third hand & he's just carrying the cause. RP says in the video use the power of the purse & don't go back to any establishment which doesn't want your business. The real problem is that some people want to force fit themselves into situations & force others to accept them. More central government is not going to solve the problem. He was sorta neutral on the boycott thingy - boycott or not. I think he's for selective spending. The only thing you are going to do with more ADA law is strangle small business & maybe some larger businesses. Some places are simply inappropriate for guide dogs (try a hall of mirrors in a carnival). Some places are inappropriate for deaf-mutes (flight school).

I don't know why that matters, but your expectations are false, she is herself disabled.

Personally i don't know any disabled people who  want "to force fit themselves into a situation & force others to accept them" ... but there are many attitudes out there so doubtlessly that one exists too.  But my own experience with the disabeled is that they just want access to the same stuff that everybody else has access to, and that they are  quite aware that it is their responsibility to adapt.  But let's face it, it is hard being disabled ... in a wheel chair ... blind ... deaf ... whatever.  Try it some day and see just how hard it is.  What's more try doing something useful or interesting in the world while you are disabled.   I think a enlightened society should bend over backward to provide what assistance it can.   No, Mark, you have not identified the real problem.
source: M continues
RP says in the video use the power of the purse & don't go back to any establishment which doesn't want your business.
Well, let's be practical here ... what is the percentage of the public who are bound to a wheel chair who frequent a given restaurant? ... so you are saying that if those people don't eat there, the restaurant will suddenly be motivated to provide wheel chair access because they are missing out on customers?  Nope, never happen.  The only way wheel chair bound people will ever get in is by collective action.  ADA simply gives them the lever that need to take that collective action.

... well i still don't know what practical solutions you or RP are proposing.  Could you answer two questions without quibbling about them ...   Would you repeal ADA if it was up to you?   What if anything would you put in its place?  ... or perhaps how would you amend ADA ?

Mark de LA says
You did, of course, not answer the question & I don't understand why you want it to be a binary answer. What need is there to amend the ADA? Why not leave it alone? None of this has anything AT ALL to do with Fluke. I've already explained my take on what RP said about it. Your solution seems to be government - mine is individuals, peoples & the principle of voluntary charity. Go thou & do likewise.

Mark de LA says
There would be more charity if religions were not pissed on by government.  There would be more charity if government & politicians didn't rob the people blind with the threat of force. There would be more charity if governments didn't continue grab more & more power so that it becomes the de facto solution to everything. There would be more charity if governments didn't use up all the reserve treasure & other resources of the people, families & productive businesses to perpetuate their own myths, wars & job security.  Cultivate charity & throw the bums out!

So, this whole deal comes back to the White House, at least indirectly. So, let's run down what we know. Sandra Fluke is a former head of the group "Georgetown University Law Students for Reproductive Justice." On February 9th, a group called "The Feminist Majority Foundation" arranged for Sandra to appear at press conference criticizing the Catholic bishops for objecting to President Obama's contraception mandate.
After that, Congressman Elijah Cummings, the former Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, invited Sandra to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee. But she was turned down by the chair, Congressman Darrell Issa, because she had no expertise in the church/state subject matter.
Nevertheless, Ms. Fluke went to the hearing and afterward complained to ABC News that she had been denied. A week later, Nancy Pelosi staged a mock hearing starring Sandra. After which Rush Limbaugh made derogatory comments elevating her to left-wing martyrdom.

for me this is just an awareness of who is fighting whom and for what reasons.  me, i don't really have a dog in the game.

"Abortion & it's weak sister contraception are naturally the sacrament of the Liberal left." ... is certainly extreme propaganda speak.   Have fun with that.

Are you, Mark Russell, opposed to contraception?  I sure hope not.  Planned parenthood is an organization that really does help women out with contraception.  Are you, Mark Russell, voting to curtail federal funding of that organization?
Well ... don't answer those questions ... that would just be RW gaming ... to no purpose.

But please respect that my interest in this article was just to become aware of who is fighting whom ... what ideas in the culture are coming to a clash.  It is not like i am joining the fight one one side.

That's your stand you found for publishing it, but IMHO it's pure bullshit long after the newsfront has passed. You are now adding to the War on Women that your Obammaleader wages -  pretending to want to understand is RWG for hs.

The fluke was not all she seemed to be when the storm started:
source: ... Though there aren’t links in the original post to the content mentioned, a little digging shows that it’s all true. Fluke has described herself as a third year law student at Georgetown University, and indeed, that is what she is. However, contrary to the narrative of innocent victimhood that portrays Fluke as a wide-eyed 23-year-old girl caught without contraception on a college campus full of predatory men, Fluke herself is really a 30-year-old women‘s rights activist who not only didn’t get caught without contraception at Georgetown, but specifically knew the university didn’t cover it and chose to attend for precisely that reason.
... & now she appears on CNN as an Obama flack.
