Bitter Nation

Denise had an idea this morning after watching a story about how Facebook had to stop a teen beauty contest.  This spawned an idea to write a  screen play, titled "Bitter Nation" about a country where all the bitter wrangling, bullying, and nasty fighting were cranked up.  It spawns an epidemic of mass shootings and suicides.

Something about angry for your bitterness files:
source: ...  After the play was over, my friend started talking about why black people were so angry all the time. I said it was a matter of remembering"nobody asks why Jews remember the Holocaust, I think I said"and she said that’s different, and I said it wasn’t, and she said that anger was just a dead end. We had a big fight, right in front of the theater. When we got back to the car she started crying. She couldn’t be black, she said. She would if she could, but she couldn’t. She could only be herself, and wasn’t that enough.
...(some amount of fiction involved) - Do Jews exhibit anger (BofNK p501 ssq.) for the Holocaust?

... David Maraniss's book spawns much bitter nation turmoil ... even more at #r012... including this .... lots of material for bro mark

me, id rather write a piece that chronicles the bitter character assassination of a president ... from his personal point of view ... how it felt ... but it  is painful  to focus  on ... i suppose when time changes context somone will do it.

On the other side of the coin, you can focus on one side or the other (your choice).  Your future is given by what you continuously focus upon.

Cooperation is the other side ... not Zen.
Already misusing the logo, eh? Now it is an anti-Zen logo?

already playing RWG.  You know you don't really have to do it.

... as you play it over & over again & are unable to stop contemplate what it is that does not allow you to stop.

... well to me i like to think i will continue only if it looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel.  What keeps me going is that i might find out something new ... otherwise i usually do stop.   I doubt that you perceive that as you would need to become aware of the absence of response from me.   Of course, sometimes, not all that frequently, i am just evil ...
... then i will respond, even if i know that it is hopeless, just to get your goat.

... and it just dawned on me, that when i'm trying to get something to happen, i avoid responding to those things for which i believe the other person is in the wrong ... just because those are the ones which will get us into argument.  Instead i respond  such that it moves along what i am assuming is the mutual agenda.  In such a mode i calculate the affect of my response on the mutual project.

I suppose ... were i to write a comedy ... i would have the forces of stereo cooperation triumph in the end and cure the epidemic ... me, i'm not so very sure i want to write a comedy ... i hate it when i'm watching a story and i know that it will all turn out good in the end for all of the characters.  i feel more like writing a tragedy.   Maybe lead readers to thinks ... oh i'm not worride ... not shaken ... because i know stories like this always turn out ok ... but then it doesn't ....  Denise's title was originally "Evil Nation" ... i changed it to "Bitter Nation".

For me it's one of these mostly futility:

In 1988 I participated in the Landmark Forum which had the following process described by an opponent of Landmark (but it was essentially similar & sounds like the base of your item)
HuffPO: ... A woman objected to what I considered the most objectionable exercise: the participants had been asked to close their eyes and imagine being afraid of their neighboring participants, then the entire group of 150, then all 7 million of London and finally the 6 billion fellow creatures on the planet, an exercise that had turned into mass hysteria of crying, sobbing, calling out "mommy mommy!" in regressed childhood voices, this until Sophie invited them to laugh, to reach the conclusion that while these 6 billion were frightening, imagine how afraid people were of you! Think of the bombed people in Iraq--aren't they afraid of us? The crowd, on command, burst into hysterical howls of laughter, aching belly howls that went on and on and on, an event which frightened me far more than my 6 billion co-inhabitants, as a demonstration of how easily mass emotion can be created, just by urging one to recall primordial fears.
... My experience was somewhat different & I had a different Forum leader. I experienced extreme mental pain and anguish at what the human condition had sunk into & a lot of despair.  I didn't really get to the laughing phase until I heard most of the room laughing & woke out of the trance to find out what the joke was all about.  Thankfully someone else explained it.
Try it - you might enjoy or do the Forum they are still available.

To shed Obama's words here in a more realistic light you might want to go back and read the whole chapter in which they appeared.  Of course the anger comes from remembering ... Jews, Palestinians, and Blacks all alike.  The fascinating thing to read that entire chapter for,  is why Obama did not end up with that anger and bitterness ... even today when so much of it is so pointedly directed towards him.
Well remembering & living in the past instead of living in the present to what's going on NOW will pull you out of reality. Then too anger is a lot tied up with inability to control (c.f. BofNK). I don't see much expressed anger in the Jews who can remember being faced with intentional extermination. As far as slavery goes remember the Romans enslaved the Greeks & the Greeks of old influenced the Roman culture from within.  I see a lot of anger in the Revs. Wright & Farrakhan who seem to live in anger. Anger & destruction gives one self delusion of having some control.  Answer your own implied question: Why did BO not end up angry - i.e. if he really didn't & is not keeping it within? Anger doesn't sell very well to conscious people?  I see a lot of anger being fomented & directed against rich people - it's a constant theme. Too bad BO needs rich people to finance his re-election, eh? BO still has the illusion of control - a primary component which defuses anger. Watch what happens if he loses the 2012 election.

What a strange anticipation of anger .  Don't forget, you get what you look for.  Me, i'm calling your response a perfect example, not of Obama's anger (of which as far as i can tell there is no evidance), but rather of anger directed towards him.
I call your reaction an example of Seth+Bitterness = Seth'  . You ignored the 95 % of what I said & got stuck eating the Obamafish at the end. Enjoy the dinner, the blue vortex is awaiting your bitter results.

Well sorry if i missed anything important in your response ... if you care, perhaps you could highlight now what you really want me to react to.

I did read it several times but found the philosophical aspects preachy, not really pertinent to current events, and nothing which was not already common knowledge.   The Jews reaction to their historical oppression is expressed more as guilt and feeling victimized.  It is now expressed rather loudly as self-defense in Israel against those who would attack.  There is no doubt it is different and is expressed differently than Afro American anger.   The anger of Revs Wright & Farrakhan is NOT the ager of Obama ... notwithstanding his opponents wish to foist it upon him.

The only thing that really stood out to me in your response was you attitude twards Obama.  That was not theoretical or philosophical or historical but rather actual real anticipation of anger ... which, me thinks, will tend to create some real anger.
Here's my most honest & up-to-date answer: because I understand anger, but am not immune to anger, I don't give a shit whether Obama is angry or not or has anger at all.

... but then why do you anticipate it ... and why do you always try to sniff it out ?
I don't - is the short answer - that's your interpretation. The formula for you to solve is
Seth + Bitterness = Seth' .... where's Seth?  For extra credit solve for the same in the formula Seth + Obama = Obama.  I am & feel protective of the USA & not necessarily Obama - pure & simple! The USA has proven itself for 235 years 9 months & 29 days. Obama has not.

In today's edition of Bitter Nation (on fb), we have silver spoons against Greek columns. I am sure images or cartoons will emerge.
Too bad the Chicago Tribune doesn't have a policy of permanent URLs because the article cited above appears to have disappeared .  Perhaps this link will be more permanent.
Sill focusing on the glass being half full of biterness!
Broken links suck .   It is the responsibility of every webmaster to maintain their links and have a policy of issuing URLs such that they remain persistent.  I lend my voice in that matter in hopes that webmasters will improve the web.  Bitter? ... nope i think not ... just rational action in the pursuit of change.

I wanted to say "Whatever meme you want to spin out of the words "bitter nation" would best be served returned to your colon with vaseline & force." .. but instead I'm saying -if you focus on bitter you get bitter. This can't possibly be one of your "projects" mentioned in 15969 can it?

Of course it is ... you finally noticed.  The medium is the message.  That in which we swim, swims in us and cannot be separated from that which we do.  Me, i'm trying to psych myself up to write about the medium ... even its bitterness ... but have not made much progress in that regard.

Yeah yeah sure, "if you focus on bitter you get bitter", that is always there ... i'm trying to culture not just a bit of objectivity in that regard  ... though, i must admit, when i talk with you it is difficult.

kewl! I'll give it a wide birth - not wanting to get sucked up in a bitter vortex of any kind.

Can a fish avoid water?
I am not a fish, but I am going to avoid this vortex no matter how enticing the blue!
Dive in, though ... this one is not my cup of tea!

I'm surprised you didn't play the toilet flush just before Obama went on the stage for the Correspondant's dinner ... it comes in about 1:12 into the youtube.

We weren't talking about Obama this time. In November that flush goes live!

Just go back to how the liberals were bashing bush & how Obama still blames him & you have the profile for lots of books you can write.
