Ever think how many more women would be around to fund your persective & pay more taxes if you had changed your hearts 20+ years ago?

A clue perhaps why Obama is worried about a War on Women:

I see within it the seeds of a fashion police of political correctness in kangaroo courts not necessarily of the people, perhaps extra judicial determining free speech.  It is not without precedent see the Wikipedia on the word "niggardly" & the "chinks in the armor" thingy. Why try to enshrine & make pseudo laws which take away free speech.  And then there is the drive to get rid of their political opposition in Rush Limbaugh as well which concerns me. Somehow I don't think that the LA city council can write laws but they can probably affect licenses & destroy businesses with regulation.

Mark de LA says
OTOH, I can think of it as the city council puffing up their usefulness or lack thereof & contextualise it as "Much Ado About Nothing" !

I fail to see how a city council "calling on media companies to ensure on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs" infringes on anybody's freedom.  That has just about as much effect as a preacher standing at the pulpit and saying let's all just be nice.

I don't hold politics & words as fighting & in the zen sense, it is all unity.
Well i guess that just about everything "is all unity" "in the zen sense".

Still and all that zen sense does not provide me a good excuse to talk  argumentatively about politics.  Does your mileage vary there?

Darn!
Argumentation is not good or bad - that was also my point.

I agree.  However arguing just to be right is useless and contra-productive ... i judge it to be bad.
I appreciate that & respect your opinion & add to that my point-of-view that arguing may hone one's ability to tease out other points of view as well as one's own AND helps motivate an in-depth look at one's own reasoning.

Shunning the practice of high visibility people using politically incorrect speech in popular media  would tend to decrease the fighting, static, propaganda, and turbulence of Bitter Nation ... but I suppose the Nation will end up fighting the shunning itself, and that might just end up more static.  Doesn't fighting something usually make it worse?
Shun all you like - so far you are free to do so. I already use selective spending (which also includes selective attention) where I can. I flip channels whenever people like Alec Baldwin, Bill Maher, Gloria Allread & some others who pretend to be entertainers but show up in my visual space as political hacks.
I don't hold politics & words as fighting & in the zen sense it is all unity.

I tend to switch channels away from Alec Baldwin and Gloria Allread too ... just because i don't particularly like them.  I actually seek out Bill Maher as i think he is funny and i think there is usually more truth to his exaggerations than not.  On the other hand, when Olbermann was on MSNBC i frequently switched channels ... me thinking that there was less truth to his exaggerations than passion ... not my favorite mix ... i can hardly stand Hannity at all for the same reason.
I am glad that there are alternative channels to switch to .

I think that individual selective spending and attention does not have much affect at all on our culture unless it is reinforced through collective communication ... but then it ends up being a boycott.  That is just something that i don't understand about your stance on boycotts.

The mere principle, if universally followed, would accomplish good results.  There is a conundrum like with the Golden Rule that individuals don't all act alike. Spread the principle like the meme Pay it Forward & it will begin to have an effect.  The cheapest item is not always the best. Gresham's Law "bad money drives out good" needs to be reversed by individual consciousness. How about a single use badge on facebook that allows one person to post "I bought this product for $n.nn" because I like that the company does xxxx which I like as a business practice".  Kinda like a holographic badge, eh?  ... just thinking out loud.

Mark de LA says
Boycotts are just too subject to being mob driven & tend toward Alinsky's Rules. There is also a Main Slut Media hype component in boycotts.

good idea.  I think all that needs is a catchy logo and formatting.  You could do it even without any facebook app, but if you made an app it might be even catchier.  You then could make a browser button that would post to facebook whenever you were on the product page.  Do it manually until you can see how better to automate it.

Case in point on Rush Limbaugh -
source: ...

A spokeswoman for Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates Limbaugh’s show to nearly 600 radio stations nationally, said Media Matters has gone beyond criticism of Limbaugh’s words to an attempt to silence him and intimidate advertisers.

“This is not about women,” said Rachel Nelson, Premiere spokeswoman. “It’s not about ethics and it’s not about the nature of our public discourse. It’s a direct attack on America’s guaranteed First Amendment right to free speech. It’s essentially a call for censorship masquerading as high-minded indignation.”

...
These Drudge headlines somehow seem to fit all together:
'This is not about women'...
'It's a direct attack on free speech'...

'KILL RUSH LIMBAUGH'...

Fascinating quote from the left: (Who is really conducting a war on women?)
ABC: ... Ann’s first tweet came just moments after Democratic strategist and DNC adviser Hilary Rosen lobbed an insult at Ann Romney, suggesting that the 64-year-old mother of five and grandmother of 16 had never held a job.
    ...
I would ask Michelle if she ever had a job in the private sector.  Did she always live off of the public taxpayers? Who put her through Harvard & Princeton?

strange how the abortion issue IS polerized according to man VS woman

Hopefully you and i can agree on that fact.  It is the woman who is trying to get the right to choose ... not a man.  Is it not impossible to separate the man/woman polarity from the life/murder polarity ?
Obama is just using a wedge issue to try to improve his female demographics which are sagging . Spin it any way you want - he started the war on women context & keeps on spinning. Well men don't get pregnant - hence it is a woman's issue. Women are the only ones who can kill their foetuses. It's hard to separate those two obviousnesses.
