About: imdb - the help (2011)

IMDB: ... An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids' point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.

...

I saw this one last night via NetFlix. It paints a dismal view of Southern society in Mississippi during the Civil Rights Era ! 60's including MLK march, JFK & Medgar Evans killing via white supremacists. Mostly it is about the lives of the help working in the homes of the leisurely.

I was going to UCLA at the time & the bus rides reminded me of the help arriving from downtown riding the bus into Beverly Hills.

I was surprised at some state laws in Mississippi which made advocating racial equality against the law. Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were fun to watch.

Regardless given how things are today after all that has changed since then it is hard to imagine how it all got that way after the civil war & all. I was very surprised! The novel & picture are not necessarily representative of all states nor all peoples in the South.

What a coincidence, we watched the Help Friday night too ... also from Netflix.

Makes me wonder how mean and dehumanizing people can be to other people ... especially if they have no tolerance for the otherness of their fellow man.

Could Jim Crowism have been eliminated in the South without the federal Civil Rights legislation of the JFK era and it's subsequent enforcement ?

Who knows? If frogs had wings could they avoid bumping their asses on the lily pads & the ground catching flies? What's so is the country evolved legislatively & emotionally. BHO even became president. What's the point?

One interesting thought that could get marinated is that the idea or belief in reincarnation could pretty much get rid of racism particularly incorporating the possiblity that one has been a different race at different incarnations.
