RTE Matrix

Well like i said above, this whole rte box is a can of worms and needs of a systematic approach. I guesss you didnt know i had already determined that, and that would thereby have very little interest and motivation to examine just one singel wiggly worm. I do, however, see a real need for a matrix of just the rte problems in prefix to a systematic approach. I kind of scoped it above. I can elaborate if necessary. I think this is a case where a singel item showing some kind of set of tables delinating the matrix would be helpful. Perahps we could start that. One dimension of the table is obviously each possible style choice. Then that is crossed with: IE, FF, whatever ... and edit or add ... and how the resuslts show in rooms as opposed to the wysiwyg rte box.

I'll see if I can grok what you want & see what is necessary. I will probably build the matrix outside (In Excel) & paste it at various times - I really hate the grid control.

Some features of the RTE are dependent upon eachother & require testing in combinations while others are independent and only need to be tested once & not in every combination. If all combinations are considered there might not be enough time in one life to test them.

How much have you found that works differently in IE and FF ?

a lot. or rather i suspect more than might actually exist. thing they use totally different markeup to effect the same thing .. that has got to create problems somewhere.

I had more in mind a functionality approach - links, edit/paste, resize pictures, text style, delete, RTE for comment vs RTE for item (if different), RTE formatting for advertizements & headers vs show in header or advertizements. My point is that you don't have to test every color to prove color works. Generally most of the features of the RTE work well. My exceptions are the difficulty of the grid (mine probably), picture placement & resizing, re-edit of a hyperlink, uploading illegal media takes a while (some loops have happened), bullets on the side of a picture overlap the picture in the RTE & get messed up if the thing is a header.
The line used to give me problems. Sometimes the color matrix doesn't fit in the window I am editing (browser adjusted too narrow ?) . Need a matrix for the emoticons. & maybe one or two others. Missing an emoticon for confused like the one I have been using for brain-farts.

.... & a couple of the download boxes where I paste the url need to be emptied of content or fully selected.

well you certainly have brought up some other things that should be in the left hand column. thing is that these "functional items" are not simply work\not-work, rather they will work with IE, but not with FF ... or they will work in add->display but will not go through an edit .. or even that they will work singly but if nested in another style they break maybe only in IE. we need to start playing with the matrix to see how best to tease out these cases. you, of course, are right that you dont need to test every color or font, but you do need to test that colors works on IE and FF and when nested in bold etc ...
