What does the president DO?

One of the things that is left out of the party platforms & the talk of responsibilities in all the legislation & regulation created by politicians FOR US is what is the president actually responsible for doing? We know he is Commander in Chief of the military & signs laws made by congress but. The U.S. Constitution, Article 2 Section 1 on the Executive does not spell out much more.
Is he god, king or servant? We currently seem to have a speech maker in chief & campaign solicitor in the office.
Drudge Headlines show how some of his time is spent:

Bush’s: “I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition.”
