so did it entertain?  are u recommending the movie?  how did you watch it?
It was much more gripping & realistic than 24, more challenging plot than House of Cards & had a couple of disturbing profiles of terrorist thinking which is my motivation for this post. I watched 1st season on DVD & 2nd season on SHOWTIME & will start the 3rd season in August, I think.

do you subscribe to showtime?
I just switched from HBO. Additionally pluses getting rid of Maher & Newsroom which began to suck in the 2nd season. Alternatives here on the show's website:http://www.sho.com/sho/homeland/home
google play?

anyway ... just found that i can get homeland from, i guess, itunes ... the season 1 for $31.90  ... nope that is a non starter.  or i could watch the preview for $2.99 ... which if that were a stand alone thing would be ok ... but since it is a continuing drama, not a good trade.  i guess i need to look elsewhere.

it's also interesting to note that SHOWTIME and HBO are the same ... about $18 per month

maybe it's just a matter of whether you laugh at conservitive jokes or liberal ones ...

could that choice be just this simple

well, of course, Maher & Newsroom would be 2 reasons that i would like to get HBO

denise is very reluctant to pay for content when watching law and order is free.  me, i'm working on ways that end up giving us more choices but don't get us into debt.  it takes a time and effort to look for materials and train our behavior so that when entertainment occurs we can juat watch it.
Well Maher has never been funny to me, even when he was not talking about current politics. To me he's just an asshole looking in the mirror & swooning at his own brown starfishness.  Season one of Newsroom was intriguing, but then turned bi-assed w/ Chris Matthews becoming some kind of technical advisor - it showed on the first episode.   I watched the first episode of season 2 & it smelled.
Eventually, maybe, Homeland will be on Netflix or DVD. A friend had the first season on DVD. which we watched. It deserved it's Emmys. We had to go on with the 2nd season. Can't wait for 3rd season.

well i'm going to look around for homeland and see if i can get it without subscribing to showgime.  i would much rather subscribe to HBO if i subscribe to anything as i have heard of many things that i wanted to watch on the latter and none on the former except your homeland.

what is funny to us is dependent on our assumptions about the world.  it tells a whole lot about those and very little about the world itself.   of course there is nothing new there.
... more likely not assumptions about the world than your sense of humor & ego.

it is not offered on netflix yet.   what i am becoming aware of, perhaps, are the distribution channels of entertainment media.  one would think that a producer would sell his wares to whoever would distribute it for the asking price.  apparently different distributors have different markups and efficiencies which do not allow the transactions to happen.  more knowledge of this is desired.
It's called a free market. Late night & weekend TV is where the graveyard of cheap drama ends. I pay ~ $10 for Showtime. Xfinity has package deals & you may be able to negotiate. Note that Xfinity streaming is shit with old movies. They must desire pay-per-view for revenue. Showtime had options for single views.

well i'm not so very sure how free it is.  seems to me that the transaction is between the producers and their audience with fees paid to the channel for their effort in conveyance.  i, of course, like to make my own choices, not the channels that get it to me.  but of course that is just my notion of an ideal.  channels always make choices for their customers ... and usually it's about  the things that they can make the most profit on.  so money becomes King ... rather than the interest of people.  not my idea of a "free market" for attention.   and you can see where it has gotten us ... movies and TV today are shit.

so that's just my rant for the morning.

lol, certainly not ... you mentioned that you did not find that stuff funny ... that is you, not me ... a bit of clarity about these kind of projections never hurt.
I'm just saying that your sense of humor is different from mine.  You like Maher's shit - I dont.  Has nothing to do with shit about assumptions about the world.

Nope about Maher.  I didn't like him from the start. He claims to be a libertarian, but more likely a jackass.

Business happens where it does.  An Xfinity has just as much right to both deliver & even produce content as does Netflix and anyone. Movies used to belong to studios & now Netflix makes movies like House of Cards.  The Hollywood studios just tanked with their last flury of blockbusters.  The net tech is not the old tech.  Even YouTube is making stars & bloggers making new reporters.  It's all good.
