Apparently I have gotten back to my list from Magor a group I haven't signed into for a while & now get to see all the changes even though I saw them already in another group & marked them all read.

but u changed your author name. that's what u need to think about. we are running on global unsecured author screen names. but not really. it all needs to be throught through.

Mark de LA says
Well once I have seen a public comment I should not have to see it again if I sign onto another group.

well if you keep the same author name i could actually make that work.  only thing is i would need to secure the author name.  that is what you argued against.

Mark de LA says
So the list is tied to a specific author, why?

chiggy says
why not, what would u have it tied to ?

Mark de LA says
why isn't it tied to a specific computer?

chiggy says
i could tie it to a machine

chiggy says
... or rather one browser on one machine.

Mark de LA says
Unless you are in the habit of going to internet cafes that might work.

Mark de LA says

We are getting closer to a regular logon each day

chiggy says
another thing that complicates it is the exclusion on the page of comments by self ... that is tied to the author name alone ... what sets the point is just a time stored in a cookie

chiggy says
... thing is, it is the same cookie that secures you to your group

Mark de LA says
Well, let's think about it a while longer

programmer says
... yep it is a tricky one .... i agree play with it a while the way it is ... that way we can more secure in how we want to change it. also i think we want other things on this same page ... other options .. perhaps this is the page where you change your password ... if we can have a clear idea of where we are going, might same show zigs and zags ... but maybe we need to just experiment ... see what works and feels best ... that is why i wanted you to become aware of the constraints ... so far all of this is done with just the same cookie we use for the group sigin ... so the time mark is cleared when you clear your cookie or sign on another group ... hmmm then when you sign back in the time mark starts at now()
