Attention

What it takes sometimes:
source: ...

The number of obese people in the Netherlands has doubled over the last two decades meaning that more than half of Dutch adults and one in seven children are overweight in a country famed for its deep fried croquettes.

Obesity hit the headlines in July when police arrested three people from the town of Alkmaar for abusing Shetland ponies by filming them while they ridden by obese women clad in erotic clothing and wielding whips.

Time disappears if you plug into the NOW religion guru Eckert Tolle & this youtube. The model of a low fidelity recording for the past, an imaginary future drawn from past experience & a bunch of wishes & a now - supposedly a Cartesian infinitesimally small segment or point on a time line.  One would expect NOW to be the most reliable, eh?  Maybe not. All I can find when searching for NOW & then not searching for it but just being totally present to what is happening at this very moment is find myself. I focus on my internal exology, my external ecology, my mind ecology & that is what shows up. In one contemplation the metaphor of a drum-set playing with one idea, one memory, one sensation, one itch ....etc on each beat of the music in my soul showed up.
The illusion of time is well handled in The Yoga of Time Travel.
It is well known that ones senses are no more reliable than memory.  The moving dot experiment shows that somewhere between the sensing & the interpretation of the sense (cognizing) the brain presumably makes up something different than what is happening. A simpler one to catch the brain leading the witness is here.

So NOW in the context of TIME is abandoned?  This topic is about that context when attention is applied to it.

well i don't know what your topic is here ... though i have tried to apprehend it and even keep to it.

for me, nows move like scenes in a play.  some things are on stage in one scene, and they change to other things in the next scene ... some things persist ... others do not.

... but what are *you* driving this towards?
NOTHING!  Still looking for a truly original thought somewhere, but NOW would be a nice time for it to show up.

lol ... well it does seem like a thing searching around for jizzum
I know where that comes from - not always available in the NOW, though. Not much of an original thought.

another quality of nows (or the stage of attention) is that the size of the stage really does matter ... sometimes it is very narrow and only one thing will fit ... perchance in a binary state ... other times it is very large.  seems to me that when i have a good nights sleep it is bigger.   i have a analogy that matches rather closely ... and that is a computer screen size ... sometimes there is very dramatic change between what i can focus on when im at my desk with the big screen ... or on my laptop ... or on the little screen on my iPhone.

i think my now-scene is shaped by whatever things show up on the stage of my awareness.  they may be memories, imaginings, sensual happenings, or emotions ... there are all sorts of things i can be aware of at any particular now-scene.  is is not the same for you?
I don't really have a technical, Seth-made definition, of what shaped means. Do you find NOW that way? What's in it - just stuff? .. any stuff? How does the stuff differ from the stuff that shows up while watching TV or reading a book or looking at your photo albums?

another word for "shaped" is "forms" ... it refers to the creating and structuring of something ... in this case mental awareness or events showing up ... err, the context.

"thing"  is just an indexical word, like "it" ... it is a variable.   i used it in my sentence above  to stand for, or vary amoung, any particular object of awareness ... anything on the stage ... it could even be the story or the plan.   "stuff" would have refered to material things ...  but, fairly obviously, "memories, imaginings, sensual happenings, or emotions" are not material things ... they are not "stuff".  but, yes, stuff does show up on the stage ... especially since my job is to sell it.
I have a simpler description of NOW for you: - NOW is where "shit happens". The PAST is where shit happened.  The FUTURE is where shit might happen or might not.

well that works for me too .

thing is what happened (past) and what could happen (future) does show up on almost all now-stages.   but the state of any being complete in a now yet devoid of past associations or expectations of the future seems to me to be just a mystical altered state ... not what can usually happen ... nor a state to be sought ... although it does sound very entertaining.
