Perhaps the author or the purveyor of the link you shared should also add his image & name to the list as well. Is this similar to a rwg by someone else?

pure association entertainment from my perspective ...

i mean you use the likes of Charlie Sheen, Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey to cast dispersions on a Nikola Tesla, a Linus Pauling or a Ray Kurzweil ... and that is supposed to discredit Dr Oz, Mahesh Yogi, Rudolf Steiner, and Prince Charles

You need to find the quotes where I used any of those people to cast dispersions on Tesla, Kurzweil or Pauling... out of context ! rwg? probably should requote your committment so I know whether you lost your committment.

wow you totally misinterpreted my words.   honestly, mark, the "you" in my sentence did not refer to you personally.   i was talking about the author of the list.   but, yes, i can see how you could have guessed the "you" in the sentence would have refereed to yourself.   that highlights  what i was trying to say before we agreed:  when hearing what sounds like an insult, we can hear the actual intended tone, if we can assume it is not an insult.   i actually got that from some of the things you said about "listening for".  Making the assumption that the other has good will in what they are saying can certainly help us avoid this kind of misunderstanding.

.. and, apparently, i should avoid the "editorial you".   Actually I'm not sure what this kind of pronoun usage is called.  Denise uses it all the time and i have gotten quite comfortable in hearing it.  For example, "When you stab somone, you don't wipe their blood on your shirt" ... "When you make a list of kooks, you shouldn't include Nobel prize winners".

Not merely a classification exercise with embedded errors, but I have already written the list off with him at the top of the list.  Guilt by association needs something besides appearing in a list - maybe like an association.

well yes, putting the author of the list on its top is perhaps the best response ... me, i was poking fun at this very kind of list making.

i think guilt by association is almost always a fallacy.  we do not control what others do, and their evil acts do not reflect upon us, notwithstanding that we may have associated with them.  Only if we have conspired or facilitated their evil deeds do we share in their guilt.

Who else do you think reads FastBlogIt ?  The whole quoted paragraph made no sense at all to me since people like Oprah don't cast dispersions against Tesla etc.  I also think the gallery itself is a rwg - poorly done at that. Maybe http://www.skeptic.com/ is better .  IDK, I'm skeptical about skeptics.
P.S. I use the editorial one instead of you as in "one does not usually step in dog shit & then lick it off without gargling with mouthwash afterwards."

It might be a strange way of thinking about it, but if you are put in a list, the other people in the list are characterizing you ... at least in the eyes of the person making up the list.  That, of course, is the old guilt by association.   From a more generalized perspective that is the nature of classification itself ... it disrespects the exceptional ... eg a punguin is a bird who does not fly ... it disrespects an eagle to call a penguin a bird.

i agree the list maker is doing rwg.  he is publicizing his supposition that people who think outside of his little box are wacos.  i think that most people would acknowledge that some of the poeole on his list are scam artists and charlatains ... but thing is, many are not, they just don't think in the standardized boxes that the author does.  then too he has chosen incidents from these peoples lives which do not necessarily characterize the essence of their life's message.  i tried to reach for that with my terse lists from his list ... doing what he was doing only to an extreme.  perhaps it was a bridge too far but i thought it was truly funny.

yes, "one" is better than "you".
