We should welcome spambots, they will help us get where we are going.

About: Why spam will revolutionize tech | Tech News on ZDNet

My interpretation of this is that we live in a world where we are bombarded with information that is of no interest to us or even is obnoxious to us.  Filtering that information so that our attention is focused on that which is of interest for us is an intelligent process.  I say, let the games begin ...

It is a pretty ridiculous argument to say that spam is contributing to AI. That would be similar to saying that Saddam contributed to the art of warfare by being a good target.

Finding & executing spammers in the public square would be a better way !

So the author of that is trying to tell me that there is some program, process or marketing device that can tell me better what I want to see, hear or read than ME ? - He's just joking! What he really wants to do is get thru my spam filter. I will seek what I want, when I want it or turn off the TV, my computer etc.

me thinks you have missed the point ... the point is

"if the evil of spam leads to a renaissance of well-funded research into fundamental knowledge systems--nothing else will do--it could be the final kick we need to create truly intelligent machines."
I don't know about your experience with spam filters, but i find googles spam filter on gmail very intelligent indeed.  eveny so once in a while i visit the spam folder, which is ever growing in volume, and scan it for false positives ... i rarely find any ... then i make two clicks, on to select all and one to delete forever.  I am then i am rewarded with the message "Hooray, no spam here!"

didn't say "spam was contributing to ai"; it is a nemesis.  Your enemy makes you stronger.

It all seems to show how fucked up evil can spoil the openness of the web, society, freedom etc. How much time is wasted fighting all this SHIT!

Our job is to preserve the openness of our web community even under attack.  If you let the win, then you loose.

It's still depressing sometimes! & it's OK to be depressed.

hmm ... ... as grandma would say: "well slap your butt and get glad" ...

Actually today's attack did not depress me, rather it had the opposite effect.  More like being glad that the domain is starting to experience the reality of its environment.  To me that feels like a good thing .

I wonder if you are still as admiring of spambots now that they are attacking us
My attitude hasn't changed ... reality does not depress me.  So far it's beneath my nusance threshold.  When it becomes a bigger nusance, i'll go look at the easiest way to defeat them ... prolly by their posting ip.
What good would posting their ip do ? I wonder if writing Google about their attempts to "juice" the numbers would help.
i didnt't say "posting their ip",  i said "defeat them ... prolly by their posting ip".  It's easier to see what i am talking about by visiting the data base and sorting the comments decending by date.  And Google along with just about every popular blog publisher already knows about these kind of anticks.

I wonder if there is a way to get delete these spam items based on content? without having to do so individually.
Yeah we got 2 handels on them,  (1) blacklist their ip (2) blacklist the url's they are talking about.
