JACKSON (Jesse): There are those who engage in voter suppression, antithetical to the beliefs of Mr. Mandela, who believed we should have an open, free, fair process where you put the pictures on the ballot so you can see who you're voting for. But then there’s unfinished business. That is to say, in South Africa today, and America we're free but not equal. The disparity gap, north and south gaps are greater now than the east/west gaps were based upon race. Too few have so much, and too many have so little. That is the unfinished business. A free, but not equal is the unfinished business.

Sheppard SMITH: There is a race to define and own the narrative, the political narrative that is that of this nation. It has changed hands repeatedly over the past few months, and the quest for ownership of the narrative is now going to take a short break and the world and the nation are better for it. Leave your narrative at the doorstep and let's celebrate a great man of the world.

RUSH: Do you understand what you just heard? You just heard a leading anchor admit that there's no news any day, there's just a story -- and whoever dominates it, writes it. The narrative is the soap opera, and it goes back and forth, and now let's be big people and put it aside and celebrate a great man of the world outside the narrative -- and then the Reverend Jackson goes right back to the narrative.

ok ok ... i haven't read any of this ... just looking at the texture of two memes from the outside.

but nevertheless this is what i expect to find: the thoughts being propogated by this item are the same as Limbaugh's snarked here.

i don't have time or inclination to follow both of those in sufficient detail to tell ... perhaps i will later.

i just thought it would be interesting to announce my expectations in advance.

yeah really ... snark ... and then snark on snark ... then snark on snark on snark ... all the way down ... why even watch it at all? i saw it comming from two different independent directions within the same hour. my only relish was watching myself seeing it coming so fast ... now i'll let the echo die down.

apart from all of that i have cultured a thirst for hearing how apartheid was actually ended in South Africa? How much of that depended on the incredible Mandela personality? That is a story i want to hear ... perhaps a detailed documentary .... that was almost missing from the media coverage i've seen.

This item was about the media (M$M) & not about Mandela.

The story is just another example. The same phenomena occurs surrounding Obamacare. Apparently POTUS can't control the narrative about how wonderful it is any longer - reality crept in instead.
It will be interesting, maybe in 20 years after all the biographies, movies, the hero & anti-hero worship has passed to examine what really happened in his life. New info on JFK & MLK etc are still emerging. How better off is the whole of Africa? (don't answer that it's rhetorical). Michael Strong & his wife seem to have quite a few stories of optimism about Africa on Facebook.

of course in the BIG drama of nations it is all about narrative AND passion AND deed ... just like it is in our individual lives. governing is structuring that. something happened there in South Africa ... something, if you think about it, extraordinary ... all expectation was that it was going to be a blood bath ... at least that was my expectation. Yet the narrative changed. How ??

I don't know. Maybe you can start a new item & conduct your own inquiry. Maybe he got religion while in jail for his revolutionary activity in the 60's. Winnie Mandella & necklacing would be an interesting node of change.
I am more concerned about what is happening in the USA.

i.e What changed the narrative on Mandela? Will all that be scrubbed by the current tools of our own M$M & racial obsessions?

President Vladimir Putin tightened his control over Russia's media on Monday by dissolving the main state news agency and replacing it with an organization that is to promote Moscow's image abroad.

The move to abolish RIA Novosti and create a news agency to be known as Rossiya Segodnya is the second in two weeks strengthening Putin's hold on the media as he tries to reassert his authority after protests against his rule.

Most Russian media outlets are already loyal to Putin, and opponents get little air time, but the shake-up underlined their importance to Putin keeping power and the Kremlin's concern about the president's ratings and image.

The head of the new agency, to be built from the ashes of RIA Novosti, is a conservative news anchor, Dmitry Kiselyov, who once caused outrage by saying the organs of homosexuals should not be used in transplants.
