its interesting to note the relationship of "the present materializes the past, conversely the future spiritualizes the present; between dwells the bearer of freedom, liberty" to an attitude of plastic habit. the past does get materialized in habits and machines which run in the now ... yet i intend into the future ... that is my freedom ... that is my thrust ... that is what i do ... that is what I am.

I mixed the Tai Shu with a very interesting RS lecture which showed up at the same time
understanding of the lecture helps understand the Tai Shu extract & visa-versa
whether you intend or not into the future you aim there unless you go seppuku
the future part aligns with Erhard as the future we are living into gives us the present

hmmm ... What do you think "the present materializes the past" means?

Can you not see that is talking about the very same process that "a machine operates only for a purpose fixed in the past" is talking about? Can you not see how a habit is a machine from the past that is manifesting its purpose in the now ... er materalizing it? Just how do we get out of that pre-determined machine purpose ... er, that is our freedom ... that is how we intend into the future. So we instead of abandoning or abhorring those machines and habits of the past ... rather we change them for the future ... that is a plastic habit ... and that is how it relates to your quote.

I didn't get a chance to read the RS lecture ... but could inform me how you related it to your bolded reddened quote from Tai Shu?

THIS is NOT about Machines it is about humans

I think we are getting confused here between the purpose of a human ... which i totally agree we would need to get into the mind of our creator to know ... and a specific purpose or intention that a human peruses which we are almost always aware of when we intend them. And i also agree that kind of purpose is exclusive the domain of us humans and not machines. Quite frankly we simply do not know how to create a machine that has true intention. So when i say, a machine operates for a purpose set in the past, i am obviously talking about the purpose of the designer of the machine. Now then we get into us humans ourselves ... and the aspect of our beings which operate on purposes established in the past ... er, habits. I don't see why any of that should be controversial ... is is not just pretty much common knowledge?
