Amusing - the art here is interesting. The art works but with gravity the machine would not.

Why wouldn't it work ?  ... as far as i can tell it would.  Of course it would slowly come to a stop unless more energy was put into it from the screw drive.
Mainly the Balls would fall off the big coil which looks round. The black & white balls would be unbalanced presumably & bump into eachother. If anything the screw would be driving the coils instead of the other way around.

could be, haven't studied it that much detail. certainly the coil screw gear would need to drive or you end up trying to get perpetual motion.  thing is were it to even work, it would require a superb balance ... on first inspection, i don't see why such a balance could not be achieved, at least in theory.

There are also gyroscope effects.  Try balancing a moving ball on a moving platform, eh?
