Unified Theory

The electro-magnetic spectrum may be falling apart under the gravity (pun intended) of an attempt to get to a theory of everything.  Is heat & nuclear radiation the same thing & hence should have the same behavior? Is light & electricity the same thing only spectrally separated?  I suspect a lot of physicists & other scientists have munged together a bunch of different things.
As an analogy lets look at the biological food-chain spectrum. Food is never created or destroyed since one bio-entity becomes the food for the next higher or lower entity on the spectrum. If you doubt that then consider the difference in quality between what I eat & what the microbes in the bottom of my septic tank eat; no insults please!

good point and well said .   I wonder what Eric would say ... apparently he is now in line for a Nobel

We can always come up with a name for a generality ... in that everything that it includes has some similarity.  For example, thoughts, feelings, and actions are all, in the context of modern psychology,  called "behaviors".  They are not the same things and do not work the same way, yet they are all experiences that a person has,  or at least that is how modern psychology wants it to go down.

As to a physical unified theory, i'm going to let those who have their hands dirty with dealing with it ... like for example Eric.
Yeah, I thought of posting it there on his page but thought otherwise. Just posted it in general.
A lot of good mathematics & science comes out of the investigations anyway, regardless. The challenge is when Ethos overpowers the Scientific Method & junk science comes out some rear ends to merge with political science & food chains get mixed up with economics - a foul stew indeed.

I always wondered why I couldn't find out what energy was.
http://www.colorado.edu/physics/phys1110/phys1110_fa10/Feynman_energy.pdf turns out it is abstract or ?

What is fascinating is that money is a similar analogous quantity & property of ? economics but may not be subject to the conservation law that energy is subjected to.

well a tiger's footprint in wet mud is not the tiger, but does contribute to our awareness of a tiger walking, and if we are smart may be the means for us not to be eaten.

that something is abstracted from that which is actually happening, does not imply that it is not useful.

i don't share your ""  ... especially the "" part ... .
I doubt that you understood any of the wallaby I presented.  Better luck next time.

well, Mark, i read Feynman's paper in detail.   What i got from you was that "energy was abstract" and therefore something to associate an "" emotion to.

money, of course, is abstract too in almost the same way.

but to me, abstract is what we as humans actually *do* ... and guess what ... it actually works ... er untill it doesn't .

so did i get your "wallaby" or not ... and if not, why not?

Your abstract stand was left over from a previous argument with you. They assume the "conservation of energy" principle without proof (like an axiom) & the rest of thermodynamics follows from that assumption. I wondered why I couldn't get a good definition of what energy was.  Even the Wikipedia skirts what is obvious about other things like power, work, etc. Feyneman did a good job explaining the principle.
Some people on the left in politics assume the same about money; the pie must be finite & if one person gains in wealth (money) it is because somebody else loses.
Anyway this was just a complex bookmark for me triggered by this article somewhere:

well the conservation of energy probably is an assumption that makes the model work.  in that sense it is like Einstein's famous assumption that the speed of light is constant.

in that sense all of our mental thoughts are models and they are, using your word "abstract", turtles all the way down.

you always run away from our collaborative models too fast ... stick around a bit and maybe we can get them to match better with what is.

Seth says
... but anyway i agree with you ... the assumption that the money pie is fixed ... with on person's gain being another person's loss always ... being totally fucked!
