Twittersphere Analysis for Memes

About: truthy

Now if they could also analyze those "political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution" of the state itself that would really be something.   I fear that the administration operatives are merely preparing for 2016 & perhaps some dirty tricks of their own with the government using tax dollars to do its own opposition research to stay in power.

seems to me that "it" was just the particular set of hash tags and url's and people that they happened to select to analyze.  apparently they don't have the resources to analyze everything or let a user select their own of interest.   the latter would yield a useful tool, even for me, if theire anaylisis ends up being useful.  it might be kind of like the graphs of words you post, but more topical as to what people are thinking and reacting to at the moment.

but, ok, i get that you are saying that the government is creating a tool to manipulate the population.  thing is, if this is successful and dovetails into a practical tool, then anybody could use it for whatever their intention.   you know, just like what happened with the personal computer.
Who says it will be released or available to anyone outside the government?

Well it might yield interesing analysises ... i would need to know a meme that I gave a shit about and then see what shows up in the graphs they develop about it.  Right now, with just a brief amount of time spent, i can't find any such memes.

Looks like one would do that on this page ...

it is not about popularity - it is about selecting out "political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution" which is what the government is paying to identify.   They should stick to terrorism.
IMHO(which is neither)

and then too, i get that you are not a fan of allowing popularity to motivate your life.

neither am i.

but what is popularity is that which the vastness of humanity is aware, feeling and doing.   that is not a thingey which i want to lightly discount as irrelevant to my life.  yeah sure, mostly it sucks ... but then frequently i suck as well ... and i will only hint of judging your suckage ... in any case i can truthfully say that what is popularly being felt and done in the world is vast in comparison to yours and my own suckage and our splendor as well.

incidentally the tagging system right here on fastblogit creates a network of memes that i frequently consult myself.  why would i not be interested in a network created by the otherness in which i swimSee, i do believe in networks.
The tagging system can be superceeded by using google site syntax:

i do believe that government funded research is typically made available to all.  me thinks it would be quite a scandal were that not being the case here as well.

This is all based on a lie highlighted in brown.
The truthy thingy is about collecting data on Americans.

Huh?  Oh are you a fan of allowing popularity to motivate your life?   Really? I had not noticed.  So how can what i said be a lie?

Anyway i do not believe that  the "truthy thingy" is about collecting data on Americans ... i see no evidence of that whatsoever ... all i see is research on analyzing the data that people using twitter and generating.  I think they just inadvertantly chose topics that would be of interest to politicians ... but ones where there would be a lot of tweets.  It's about using a large sample of data.  If they instead analized something like #toothlessfoodie they would get just about the null set.   Me thinks that you belief that this is some Obama administration conspiracy, might just be a scatoma in your eye ... no?
I am neither a celebrity nor a politician why should I care about popularity. Just another value for those people who take selfies to feel themselves in the "out here ness" & "otherness".
... it apparently is below my 14th value which is pretty big in itself & probably is up there near #5.  Incidently my values thingy has a short clip for each one which is the evidence or what I mean/aspire to with each one.
btw, there are buzzwords that can be searched for - particularly the word Obama, liberal, tea-party etc.  Ask the x-IRS head about those.

Feds spend $1 million collecting 'suspicious memes'

Through a National Science Foundation grant, the federal government is bankrolling a database of "suspicious memes" and other "false and misleading" political ideas posted on social media. So far, nearly $1 million has been spent on the plan, which is based at Indiana University and known as "Truthy," inspired by comedian Stephen Colbert's concept of "truthiness."

A major focus of the project is determining whether memes are created by professional political activists or regular internet users. Truthy's "About" page suggests that such content distributed by the "shady machinery of high-profile congressional campaigns" is just one example of "political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution" lurking on social networks. The ultimate goal of the project, as explained in the NSF grant, seems to include suppression of this content: "[Truthy] could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda, and assist in the preservation of open debate."
