Some other un-crisp stuff here.
Lack of privacy brings thoughts , feelings & deeds down to the lowest common denominator - I want the converse.

I have not found that follows.  In fact quite the opposite.  We rub our thoughts and feelings against the world so that the ones worth surviving will survive and the ones unworthy will get destroyed.  Why do you think that the scientific method requires publishing and peer review ... that is one of the mechanisms of science that weeds out the bad and encourages the good.

But i am curious ... does sometimes publicizing your thoughts, and feelings brings them down to just what the world about you can accept?  ... or do you just think and feel them anyway asserting yourself? ... or somtimes do you then think less of your thoughts and feelings, once publicized?  Some serious questions there to ponder ... even perhaps to publicize your answers.

Incidentally this "rub against the world" meme is a biggie with me ... had it for a long time ... still like it.  What do you think of it quite apart from your defense of privacy .... i mean after all it is quite a different aspect of the issue.
Well I find the exact opposite to your wallaby.  I am sure you appreciate more support for your point of view or points of view that you like about the subjects that you like & have not thought in depth about or are missing answers for.   OTOH, like the thorns, weeds & berry bushes in my garden which invade my space - opposition to delicate ideas in evolution can drive them away. In politics in particular the political correctness meme opposes thoughts like be human rather than racist. Publicity versus Privacy can make a crime out of anything - Communist China notwithstanding. In some cases lack of privacy is deadly. Start with the government first!

Then contrast that with this & the FOIA where trying to get information out of the Federal Government we pay for is like pulling teeth & needs to emerge out of the stone age of lawyers suing to get information out of the POTUS' most transparent government in history.
FOIA should move at the speed of twitter or at least FaceBook, IMHO.
Government Privacy Oppresses US.

"Government Privacy Oppresses US"  -- Einaian

Well said ... it also opposes us.  I think that is a special case of this item's meme.  In this special case the "we" is us the people, and the government is presuming that it has individual status ... er which it does not.

I am not ready to give that up yet.
... Incidentally nor am i.  Each individual should be free to choose what part of their life is private and what is public.  In our land, that is our right ... thank you founding fathers.  I would have it no other way!   My agenda here is not to take any person's right to their privacy away.   That right, me thinks, is an important part of how we humans are separated into distinct individuals ... there is no way i want to give that up.

But this meme is looking at the effects of privacy on the whole ... what does it do in and of itself to our functioning as a whole being?  What does privacy do to synergy?  To synchronicity?  To thinking and feeling outside of one's self?   To harmony?  To love itself?    This meme just explains why me, I personally, have chosen my peculiar privacy boundaries ... which may well be quite different than others.

Einaian says
OTOH, privacy for what I am doing & my things is guaranteed by the US Constitution.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
... I am not ready to give that up yet. In a Golden Rule society I might change my mind.

So why a meme we already have that? ... as much as we want.

Well many in our society have held up this privacy thingey as some kind of ultimate virtue.  I'm just trying to show the other side of that coin by looking at privacy from the outside rather than from inside of an individual.  Forgetting about the government for a moment and just thinking about your neighborhood ... would not more positive possibilities present, were you and the people in your neighborhood more open with each other?  What works against that, of course, is just fear.  Which is not to say that said fear can not be at times justified.

I think we explored all the dynamics - at least in a lo-tech world of the times - at Project II . Of course it eventually evolved to this.
