Aristotle on Topics

About: topics (aristotle) - wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fifth book of his Organon is on Topics. Was inspired by P.2661 to chase down the meaning of Organon & ran into it in the Wikipedia. From there the thingy on topics just popped out.

Logic

Organon
1a Categories Categoriae
16a On Interpretation De Interpretatione
24a Prior Analytics Analytica Priora
71a Posterior Analytics Analytica Posteriora
100a Topics Topica
164a Sophistical Refutations De Sophisticis Elenchis

It may or could be interesting to explore a bit in depth later since one of the things that happens here is the focus (topic) of discussions usually disappears or mutates after a short while after discussing. Nice to know is that some books can be read underneath the above links.

may shed some light on CFR's "a priori argument" at the end of Barbara Cubed which i must admit i never understood.   Yet i am pretty sure that i will not be delving into that now ... not in my current agenda.
Worked for me, I don't know why it didn't for you. Perhaps on another item you may want to explain how it didn't .  You chose another book of Organon to shift direction.

personally i usually do not find it a problem here that focus moves as long as the rules for useful dialgue are observed

then too, where needed for a specific purpose (agreed upon or not) one can always apply an extra rule to restrain focus narrowly, within some particular item.   I even have deployed the keep on topic to denote such items.

then too, does not what is so about the topice itself change just so very much as our notice of those changes?  Why is it always necessary to restrain those changes?
Like this has nothing to do with Aristotle's Topic.
As long as the discussion nuance or topic serves Bozo it is considered "on topic" from Bozo's point of view. Often the shift in topic or focus serves Bozo's right-game (subset of RWG) . Observe your own rules & they may or not catch on.

well it does bear directly on this item itself, as you yourself projected it here when you said: "It may or could be interesting to explore a bit in depth later since one of the things that happens here is the focus (topic) of discussions usually disappears or mutates after a short while after discussing".  And, since that was really the only thing you yourself said here, that was where my focus landed.    but, hey, focus as you like ... that is completely up to you as you perhaps already know.

... well I think and focus just as I do and can take no view but my own ... though when enticed i think you will find that i do focus on others where i can grock what they are getting at.  So, express and articulate away ... i am your audience in that regard ... and strangely enough i thirst for it.

then too i think your thoughts about RWG here are just your own seeing it as such ... there is no evil in serving my identity going on here except in your eyes. mabye best to just forget about all that shit, no?

NOPE!
