There is nothing special or valuable about otherness.
From my point of view that is a category error.   Something is called "special" to a specific being ... not some generalization of everything that is not something else.
Word soup.
Where all the letters of the alphabet point to abstractions - nothing real.

Typical of gangs [see: item 17748] - gangs of terrorists or gangs of law enforcement or government must give way to the rule of law & human beings. The Golden Rule is one such law. It's the only law that would change things remarkably if applied without haggling on an individual basis from within.

welll that would be nice ... not sure about the "must" part.
Must is the part where evolution leaves behind those who are too selfish or evil who will want to go their own separate ways. There is natural selection (Darwin) & then there is voluntary evolution like what founded this country separate from kings & slaves.

The Tao keeps rolling. The World Mitosis keeps on trucking.

Appreciation of otherness has no implication of "equal value &/or moral equivalency" in my mind.  It might be interesting to tease out why it has come up in yours.
Why mention otherness if it has no value to you - if only to be able to tell that you have an Ego by finding something else that is not you.

i wonder if voluntary evolution "must" also leave behind a refusal to comprehend that which comes from elsewhere than one's own ego.
comprehended AND rejected

Just because you have a point of view or a different opinion doesn't mean it is any good!

yep, of course, once comprehended one can always form some judgement ... good or bad.

but i don't think that comprehension must always come with a judgement.

and i don't think judgement must always comes with comprehension.   For example, the Kouachi brothers did not comprehend the humor in the Charlie Hebdo cartoons ... and I don't comprehend what you are PMLing about above.  I claim that we can become conscious of otherness, comprehend it,  and not judge it ... and yet interact with it or exclude interaction with it ... voluntarily.
Yep, & yet I reject the otherness implication of equal value &/or moral equivalency implied or not. Otherness opinions are not necessarily any good at all!

well otherness certainly has value to me ... and it's value is not only that it is not me.   so I cannot comprehend what you are saying here.

i mentioned otherness here because the Kouachi brothers judged the authors of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons and killed them without comprehending their otherness.  i can well imagine these same brothers giggeling over the French instead of shooting off they guns ... and doing it with no disrespect for That which Is Great!
There is nothing special or valuable about otherness.
"It is well to remember that the entire universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others."
.'. ... it is all over the place. Maybe re-read the TaiShu commentary about
judgement which I previously quoted ... good stuff

well, yes ... er, so don't do that.

Actually this is a perfect example right here of taking a negative attitude toward otherness ... and er, where that leads.  In this case the otherness is this word game here between us.  You started the game with your now famous statement, "There is nothing special or valuable about otherness".   I told you that those words do not make any sense to me ... unfortunately i tried to explain why the did not ... and that specific otherness-to-you got rejected and pissed upon by you.

Perhaps i should have started with a better understanding of what your nonsensical-to-me statement meant to you.  You did explain it, quite adequately, with your next sentence, "It is well to remember that the entire universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others."  .... hence i can see how you could conclude that since almost everything is otherness, none of it is special.

So, yes of course, if we contemplate the general class of things that are not-us, then almost by definition we can find no specialness in that class.

But, Mark, do you really think that has anything to do with what i mean when i say, "I can respect and appreciate otherness" ?   Do you really think my otherness-to-you over here is that stupid?

No, Mark, i am talking about my taking attitudes towards specific instance of things that are certainly not me.   Remember my new respect for the specific

Now i have taken the time to analyze this from both of our perspectives ... and reread it to make sure that is stated clear enough.  Hopefully you will have enough respect for my time and effort and though here that you will not just call it "a pile of words".
Everything that is not YOU is OTHER. Get it or forget it.  I am moving on, your dinners of word salad & word soup notwithstanding are simply bland & content free like a sleeve job without the humor attached.

yep, an excellent job of disrespecting my thought ... of disrespecting my otherness to you.  Kudos ... i could not have made a better example if i had scripted it for that purpose myself .
Excellent example of republishing PISSCHRIST over & over ... how does it feel?
