bad url removes RTE contents

This is particularly distressing when I did an upload of a picture & I put a tag with a period (forgot not allowed) and when the error returned without anything in the edit box.

... hmmm ... a period is allowed in tags, must have been something else.

I have managed to recreate this, NOT WITH A TAG, but with a bad url.

steps:
  • new item /add download a picture into the RTE box
  • type a bad url into the About web page (URL): box
  • submit item
  • RTE returns with an error
  • back out of the error with back button
  • system returns with an empty /add box , but I think the item is accepted with a title not given in the about box.
